Century Gaming

The Largest Slot Route Operator in Nevada

Online Slots Home

Century Gaming is the largest slot route operator in Nevada. Though such a positions seems secure in 2006, this achievement was the culmination of two and a half years of negotiation between Century and Alliance Gaming for the purchase of Alliance subsidiary, United Coin. This one single purchase, which took place between 2003 and 2005, Century Gaming operations expanded by a factor of 5.

Century started out in Missoula, Montana in 1986. The company began to focus into the slot route operation business in the early to middle nineties. Ten years later, Century Gaming owned 10% of Montana's nearly 20,000 small venue slot machines.

But with the existing gaming laws in Montana, there was no chance for Century to expand in this state. Their executives soon decided to expand into other regions. It was not long before they decided Nevada was their destination. Nevada is the big leagues for slot machine owners, and it is also the most stable market for said owners.

United Coin

United Coin is a much older slots company than Century. It was established in 1958, working in close partnership with portions of Bally Gaming. By the early 2000's, United Coin was struggling.

By this time, United had become a subdivision of Alliance Gaming. It had operations not only in Nevada, but also in other states, including large scale assets in Louisiana. United Coin's Nevada slots route alone had 8,200 slots, video poker and keno machines.

In the year before Century Gaming came to agreement with Alliance Gaming, Century had been looking to buy one or two smaller operations in Nevada. Eventually, purchasing the largest Nevada slot route began made more and more sense.

Century Arrives in Nevada

By purchasing United Coin, Century Gaming purchased 8,200 keno, video poker and slot machines. About 5,500 of these machines were in the Las Vegas area, while another 2,700 were found in the region around Reno.

Century went from 40 Montana employees to 650 total employees, including 600 in Nevada. There were the usual ripple effect when new management takes over, but most of those 600 employees remain in place two years afterwards. The entire purchase cost Century Gaming over $125,000,000.

So from an obscure slot route operator in an obscure gaming area, Century Gaming is the largest slot route in the biggest gaming state in the Union.
