Jackpots and the RNG

July 12th, 2011

No matter how many times it is explained that the Random Number Generator (RNG) of an online slots game does not adjust itself once the game’s jackpot is won there will still be players who believe otherwise. They base this on the fact that they do not immediately win the jackpot on their next spin right after winning the jackpot. Because they do not immediately win again they assume that the online slots game’s RNG has adjusted itself to not land the winning symbols again.

So we are going to look at how an online slots game could not award another jackpot immediately after awarding a jackpot without adjusting the RNG.

An online slots game has thousands of possible outcomes for a spin. Possibly even tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands. It all depends on the number of symbols in the game. So let’s say that you spin the reels and win the jackpot. The RNG will keep on cycling through possible outcomes; it never stops cycling, not even for a jackpot. And all of those thousands and thousands of possible outcomes could come up on the next spin.

So let’s say that in a year you win two jackpots. That means that you have two spins, two opportunities, to land the jackpot combination out of the thousands of possibilities.

Say there are 50,000 possible outcomes. The RNG is cycling through them in microseconds. You only have one chance after winning a jackpot to land the winning combination again. One in say fifty thousand.

This is not to say that it could never happen. This is to say that it is highly unlikely that it will. The smart online slots player understands the probability of a double jackpot and of the RNG landing on the winning combination two times in a row. They look at the thousands of spins that it took to land the jackpot once, and recognize that it could take just as many spins to land it again. This is just how online slots and their RNGs work.

Reinventing Slots Games

July 8th, 2011

I have been tossing around some thoughts about some of the reinventing that is happening with online slots of late. Two of the biggest reinventions have been to create real 3D online slots games and to restructure how winning combinations are created.

Both of these reinventions have been done by Microgaming. This is not a bad thing; this is innovation, taking what has been standard for years and upgrading it so to speak. This is similar to how slot machines were reinvented to become online slots games. And Microgaming is always one of the frontrunners when it comes to innovation with online slots games.

A real 3D online slots game was the first most recent reinvention of online slots. Microgaming’s creation, Real 3D Sterling Silver, is the first to truly bring the graphics of the slots game out of the computer skill and put them right in front of the player. This was a new way of playing online slots games.

Microgaming took another innovative leap two months later with the launch of their alternative online slots game, Hexaline. This new online slots game, which made its debut this month at Microgaming powered online casinos, does not have players trying to land matching symbols.

Instead of matching symbols, players have to cross their fingers that the reels will stop with the same color of hexagons on the reels. That will generate a payout, but the action does not end there, and this is where more of the innovation of this new online slots game comes into play. When a color combination occurs, those hexagons drop off the reels to be replaced with new hexagons; if more color combinations happen with these replacements, more payouts are made.

In short, this is the first online slots game that could generate multiple payouts from a single spin in regular play. And this is what makes Hexaline so innovative. In all actuality it is probably the next reinvention since Rival Gaming gave us iSlots.

This is what online slots players really appreciate, software developers who truly appreciate the players enough to keep creating new online slots games that have more than a new theme.

Luck and Online Slots

July 4th, 2011

I am sure you have heard stories about the things people do in Vegas when it comes to slot machines. I am talking about the things they bring or do to try to win the favor of Lady Luck.

I have seen and heard of people only wearing specific clothes to play in; setting good luck statues on the machines; and even blessing the machines with holy water.

At the end of the day if they had improved luck, it was a coincidence. I do not say this to be mean. I say this because luck cannot be swayed when it comes to slot machines. And the same applies to online slots as well.

Just like slot machines, online slots games are governed by randomness. It is the nature of the Random Number Generator (RNG). The RNG is what controls the outcome of a spin. And even then ‘controls’ is not really the right word.

When an online slots game is built, the software developers will program every possible outcome of a spin into the RNG. The RNG is then programmed to work with the online slots game. When someone is playing, as soon as the Spin button is clicked the RNG will randomly (hence ‘random’ in its name) pull an outcome from all the other possible outcomes. This happens in less than a second. Because of the RNG there is no way to sway the outcome of a spin or to influence the luck of a spin.

While luck is associated with online slots, it is only so because of how there is no way to have an impact on a spin. Unfortunately clothing, statues and holy water will not change how the RNG functions. It is best when playing online slots to focus on how you are wagering and the speed at which you a playing.

Fishing Meets Slots

July 1st, 2011

We have a holiday weekend coming up starting with the end of today. Some will go camping, others will host parties and cookouts and others still will take mini vacations. Some will spend time on favorite hobbies. If you are an online slots player who likes fishing, then Top Game has an online slots game that could ‘take you away’ this weekend.

The name of this online slots game is Lucky Fishing. It has a cartoonish and comedic theme that will have players spinning the reels to make their catch. Top Game has given this online slots game five reels and twenty payline for fishing up some coins. Symbols include a couple of fishermen, some fish and various fishing paraphernalia, including Bobbers, Poles, Tackle, Bait and even a Boot.

The Wide Eyed Crab is the Wild here. Landing five of this little guy will award an online slots player the 10,000 Lucky Fishing jackpot.

Top Game also gave Lucky Fishing a Scatter. Landing the Tropical Fish can award up to a 100 xs multiplier on the total triggering wager.

And naturally there this online slots game comes with a bonus game: The Big Catch. Players must land the Lucky Fisherman on reels two, three and four on any active payline in order to trigger this bonus game. This is where the fishing comes into play in this online slots game. Players will be casting their virtual lines to reel not only fish but their bonus prizes too. The better the fishing, the better the bonus prize.

Players who are looking to do a little fishing from the comfort of their own home can check out Lucky Fishing at any Top Game powered online casino, such as Rome Casino. It is a fun online slots game the combines the fun of fishing with the thrill of online slots.

Tracking Slots Games

June 30th, 2011

Tracking is a popular pseudo slots strategy when it comes to online slots playing. I say ‘pseudo’ because tracking the wins and payouts of an online slots game does an actually increase a player’s chances of winning or ‘cracking’ an online slots game. Let me explain.

Online slots are games of chance. This means that the game’s RNG will pull the result for a spin in the first microsecond after the Spin button is clicked. The RNG will pull the outcome of a spin from all possible outcomes; none are removed from being a possibility. With none being removed from being pulled for a spin, it means that tracking does not ‘crack’ how or when a certain combination will land. For example, say an online slots game lands a particular combination seven times and then lands the jackpot; it does not mean that landing that particular combination seven more time will trigger the jackpot. It is entirely random.

Another reason tracking does not work is that a player cannot see the results of any other player’s spins on that same online slots game. So even if tracking did work, the player doing the tracking would not be able to factor in the results of the hundreds or thousands of the players’ results.

However, there is one thing that all online slots players should be tracking: how much they lose and how much the win. This information comes in handy come tax time. Online slots players can actually claim their losses up to a certain point. And any major slots wins also have to be claimed; in fact, there is a special form of gambling winnings.

So rather than tracking the results of spins in an ineffectual attempt to ‘crack’ an online slots game, players should be tracking their losses and wins from playing online slots.

Slots Rock the Orchestra

June 30th, 2011

Orchestra music is not as boring as a lot of people think, especially when it is orchestra music as presented by the online slots game Mad Orchestra.

Mad Orchestra is a five reel, twenty payline creation by Top Game, and up and coming software developer of online slots games. The graphics are a tad reminiscent of Microgaming in that they are bright, fun and a bit on the cartoonish side. But there is an intricacy to them that is all Top Game.

As you can guess about this online slots game, the theme centers around an orchestra. Symbols include musicians and instruments. But the two calls to fame symbols in this online slots game are the Conductor and the Diva.

The Conductor brings to mind Mozart. Well to me he does. Either that or mad scientist meets orchestra conductor. This guy is the Wild in Mad Orchestra. Landing five of him will award the player the game’s jackpot of 5,000 coins.

The Diva is a whole other thing. By that I mean she is the trigger for the bonus game. Players must land her on reels two, three and four at the same time in order to trigger the Diva Melody Bonus Game. In this bonus game, players choose what notes the Diva will sing. Once the selection of notes is made, the game begins and she sings the song. The better the tune, the better the bonus prize that is awarded.

Top Game is one of the newest providers of online slots games, but already they are making a name for themselves. If Mad Orchestra is any indication, they will become quite popular. Mad Orchestra can be found at Top Game powered online casinos, such as Rome Casino. I look forward to seeing what other online slots games Top Game will turn out.

Jungle Book Slots Bonus

June 24th, 2011

It is that time again. It is Friday and that means this week’s Slots Jungle Special Weekly Bonuses have been posted.

I always like how they give a theme to their bonuses. I also like how they changes thinks up each week. Sometimes it is three bonuses for online slots, and sometimes it is four. And the minimum amounts change and so do the percentages of the bonuses. This change up gives a fresh, exciting feeling to the bonuses offered at Slots Jungle—like ‘What is next?’

This week’s theme is Jungle Book, a fun theme for the first week of summer. Here is a rundown of this week’s Special Weekly Bonuses for online slots:

-For the online slots player who deposits any amount, a 194% bonus can be claimed. The claim code is APE194.

-Any online slots player who deposits $100 or more can claim a 230% bonus using the claim code APE230.

- And for the online slots player who deposits $350 or more, they can use the claim code APE310 and claim a 310% bonus.

Naturally there are restrictions on these bonuses. They would not be real bonuses if they did not somehow have restrictions. Thankfully the restrictions are not bad.

These online slots bonuses can only be redeemed up to fifteen times. These bonuses can only be used on online slots games—no keno, no scratch cards, no specialty or table games. Slots only. Also there is a wager requirement which is 30 xs the combined totals of the deposit and bonus money.

The Weekly Special Bonuses are a nice way to get something to boost your online slots bankroll at Slots Jungle. Slots Jungle is a Real Time Gaming powered online casino, which means that players can play the Real Series of online slots.

More Microgaming Slots for Android

June 23rd, 2011

It seems that this is the year that the Android platform will pass the Apple OS in popularity. One sign of this trend in the online gambling realm is that Microgaming and their partner for mobile gaming services, Spin3, are launching Microgaming online slots games in apps to the Android platform.

This past February saw the Tomb Raider online slots game go Android. Now two more from the Microgaming lineup of online slots games has been announced: Mega Moolah and Mermaids Millions.

Mega Moolah has just been launched to Android. It is available for all devices running the Android platform so that it can be played on a smart phone or on a tablet PC and still deliver the quality that Microgaming online slots are known for.

The mobile app version of this online slots game offers players the chance to trigger a free spins feature with a 3x multiplier on free spins winnings. Also to be found in the mobile app is a bonus game that gives players the opportunity to win one of four progressive jackpots.

The reason that Mega Moolah was the chosen online slots game to be launched is because of the revolution and beginning of a move to mobile gaming that is only expected to increase, and there is a definite shift to Android. According to the head of Spin3, Matti Zinder, Spin3 and Microgaming are “Confident that the millions of Android fans will help the world’s biggest progressive slots game become even bigger.”

And by that yes, the mobile version of Mega Moolah will be tied into the progressive jackpot that is happening in its online casino counterpart.

While Playtech looks at the hopefully emerging US market of online gambling, it looks like Microgaming is looking at the mobile arena.

Playtech Pokes at US Market

June 22nd, 2011

For those who have been poking around at software developers and like the online slots games that Playtech offers, now may be a time to begin getting excited.

Playtech is slowly working its way into the US online gambling market. That is the part you can get excited about. But they are using online poker as their in route since it is far more likely that online poker will be legalized first before online casinos and online gambling in general. So do not get too excited as online Playtech slots are not in the near future for US players.

However, this is a good sign. It means that they want to be in the US market and want to go about it in a slow, legal manner so that they do not go the route of Poker Stars and Full Tilt. This also shows that there is a definite push on the federal government to legalize online gambling in the US. Citizens want it and so does the industry.

Playtech is working its way into the US market through California and their state level online poker bill. They have made a deal with the California Online Poker Association to handle the state’s online poker needs should they legalize online poker. This is would be the first step for the software developer. The hope is to gain ground in the US market in anticipation of federally regulated online gambling, which is gaining more and more momentum in Capitol Hill.

“The deal [with COPA] puts Playtech in the strongest position to take advantage from anticipated changes to US regulation as California is likely to be one of the first to regulate on a state level,” said Playtech in a statement.

Online slots players can take this as a positive step towards eventually being able to play their line of online slots games.

Free Spins vs. Bonus Games

June 21st, 2011

Back in the day just about every online slots game offered players the chance to trigger a free spins round or a bonus game. Both were offered.

Nowadays it seems that the majority of online slots games only offer either a free spins round or a bonus game round. One or the other there. And more often than not, the one offered is the free spins. Granted there are some software developers who will still give some of their online slots games both options, using these come from Rival Gaming, but most of the time it is just one and it is usually the free spins. Why is that?

Let’s compare the two first before answering.

With free spins, players are given X number of free spins usually with a multiplier on them. The benefit is to win money while not paying to spin the reels; and the multiplier increases the winnings from those spins, making them worth more. But players are not always guaranteed to win much or even anything.

Now compare this to a bonus game, which will award a player a payout every time. Most often it is a pretty decent amount they win, around the cost of a dozen spins or so at the least.

You can begin to see what the difference is and why free spins are more often offered in online slots games today. This is not to say that free spins are bad and should be avoided. On the contrary, free spins are beginning to come into their own.

Software developers are offering more free spins when they are triggered. Multipliers are also being increased and offered more often. This switch to more of an emphasis on free spins is causing software developers to change how they offer free spins, and the changes keep getting better and better.
