iSlots Rock!

May 25th, 2010

How many online slots players out there like video games like Guitar Hero? If you are one of them then I have got an online slots game for you. Actually it is an iSlot but, trust me, you will like this iSlot.

Naturally because this is an iSlot it comes to slots players from Rival Gaming. The slots game? It is called Rock On, and it is a five reel interactive online slots game with twenty paylines.

The name says it all though. This is an online slots game that is meant to play hard. What with familiar faces like Ringo, Hendrix, Manson and symbols like Guitars, Drums and Hand Signs, this online slots game is meant to get your energy up.

To help players on their way to money and rock star glory are a Scatter, an expanding Wild and a regular Wild.

The Drums are the Scatter. They not only give online slots players a Scatter payout but they also trigger five free spins with a 3x multiplier when at least three Drums are landed. And while that sounds nice, this makes these free spins even hotter: landing a drum on each of the five spins will award an extra payout.

The Green Guitar will act as your expanding Wild. It will cover its entire reel to help create more winning combinations.

The Red Guitar is the regular Wild, substituting for all symbols except for the Expanding Wild, Scatter and Bonus Symbol.

And speaking of the Bonus Symbol, here comes the King. Yes, Elvis is the Bonus Symbol. Landing three of the King will trigger the interactive bonus round…

How are your guitar skills by the way? Because you are going to need them in this bonus game.

This iSlot’s bonus game is set up similar to Guitar Hero. There is a seven song set list which online slots players will play through, one song for each bonus round. This song list includes ‘Gold Mine,’ ‘Egyptian Queen’ and ‘Garden of Secrets’ along with four more. Players are presented with the frets of a guitar and, like in Guitar Hero, must click the pick on the notes as they slide over the frets. The more notes hit the more coins won.

With all the lights and sounds—not to mention that rock star interactive bonus game—this is one iSlot that is not to be missed! Rock On turns the ordinary online slots game into your very own rock concert inside your computer.

Soaps and Slots—Part One

May 21st, 2010

Those who love soap operas will love the iSlot As the Reels Turn. This five reel, fifteen payline online slots game from Rival follows several characters in the drama of the El Paradiso Casino.

Because this is an iSlot the story unfolds only when you make it. So pull up a chair and your computer and get ready to follow Matt G, Chrissy and the Don as the reels turn.

Online slots players will begin with Matt G lamenting that he cannot afford a friend in the world and leaving something confidential in his safe at the El Paradiso.

To help online slots players uncover the next scene they have four Scatters to work with. One triggers free spins, two trigger bonus games, and the last one moves the online slots player to the next scene.

Three or more Ivan Scatters will trigger ten free spins with a 3x multiplier.

Three or more of the Tommy symbols or the Bonus symbols will trigger the Tommy Wong bonus game and the bonus game respectively.

In the Tommy Wong bonus game you help Tommy choose what act he is going to perform that night. The more the audience loves his act, the more you win. And in the bonus game you help Matt G find counterfeit coins. The more authentic ones you find, the more money you win.

Then three or more Advance Scatters will advance you to the next scene in this iSlot. When an online slots player triggers the Advance they are treated to a video scene to watch the next part of the As the Reels Turn soap opera along with a bonus game.

The second scene has online slots players in on the plot to help uncover who is slipping the counterfeit chips into Matt G’s casino.

As there are several scenes to this iSlots, the total review of the game will have to be broken down in parts. Every now and then I will revisit As the Reels Turn and play up to the next scene. Check back to see what happens next and what the next scene holds for bonus games.

Looking For Newer Online Slots

May 21st, 2010

It seems there is no end to the online slots games that software developers can create. Every few months or so one of them is releasing a new set of online slots games. And while the themes, graphics and overall appearance change, the basis of the online slots game does not.

And while we online slots games players do enjoy our games, trying the new ones and replaying our favorites, there are times that we wish that there was something truly new in terms of online slots games. Something different.

Thankfully Rival Gaming came up with something new for online slots games that is really new and not just a new theme. Their latest type of online slots game is not about how many reels or how many paylines the game has, but the core of the game.

Rival has created the iSlot, which is short of Interactive Slot.

This new type of online slots game changes how players interact with their game. Whereas with slots games the players are merely along for the ride their money takes them on, the iSlots require more of the player.

For example, if you triggered a bonus game in a standard five reel, twenty five payline slots game you are most likely to be taken to a second screen, where you merely pick one of a handful options, your bonus prize is revealed, and then you are taken back to the first screen for more reel spinning.

But with the bonus games in an iSlot you are not merely a picking bystander. Players must interact with the slots game and how they play the bonus game will impact their bonus prize.

Take Heavyweight Gold for example. In that slots game’s bonus game you are controlling the boxer and must fight an opponent. How you well you beat him and how quickly have an impact on your prize; and if you lose, well, you get a prize but no nearly what you would have gotten if you had won. And you can lose in this game. You are controlling the boxer after all, telling him when to block and when to hit.

What iSlots give an online slots player is more interaction. And more interaction drives up the fun of the game. These are not slots games in which you sit back and watch the reels spin—with these you have to participate. And that active role is what is making iSlots the new direction of online slots games.

What Makes a Good Bonus Game? Part II—Playing

April 1st, 2010

Yesterday I began a discussion on what makes for a good bonus game in an online slots game. The first aspect of bonus games that I discussed was how triggerable a bonus game is.

Today we are going to look at the types of bonus games that are out there in online slots games.

The first one up is the interactive ones that are usually found in iSlots. These bonus games require more on the part of the slots play. It is not as simple as pick a prize. In a bonus game of an iSlots you have to play to win, and you might not always win.

One of my favorite iSlots bonus games I found in the Heavyweight Gold online slots game from Rival. There are three bonus games that you can trigger, each one has a different boxing opponent for you to go up against. In each one of these games you have to hit the buttons to make your character punch your opponent and to block when he hits you. If you beat him, you win. If he beats you, you lose and you lose a larger bonus amount.

Now let’s compare this to the pick a prize bonus game found in online slots games. In these bonus games you are taken to a bonus screen and presented with a number of things to choose from. Sometimes your choices only flip over to reveal your prize. Sometimes your choice has a bit of animation to go with it—maybe a skier skiing down the path you have chosen—before your bonus amount is awarded.

There are still some online slots games out there that are even more basic. If three symbols are required to trigger the bonus game, they will flash right there on the reels and you pick one for your bonus amount. You do not leave the main playing screen in these bonus games.

For entertainment’s sake, iSlots have taken the lead in bonus games. Although the animation that accompanies the second screen bonus games can be quite elaborate, which balances out the simplicity of the pick a prize bonus game.

Ultimately I have to say that iSlots really do seem to be the future for online slots games. They have given their slots game stories and incredible bonus games to play. You do not only look forward to winning the bonus amount, you look forward to actually playing the game.

Around the World in How Many Spins? Part II

February 9th, 2010

So I have finally played my way to the Alaska slots in Baby Boomers Cash Cruise. This was after another two hundred spins, and a stint in the Travel Agency slots portion.

And I must say that while the graphics are very pleasing with some native images and lots of wild life, the bonus games and free spins were lacking when compared to the bonus games and free spins in the other two destinations.

Alaska offers players ten free spins when they land three of the Ship’s Wheel. But unlike the ten free spins in Greece, these do not have an expanded Wild through all the spins, although there is a 3x multiplier on any winnings you do make.

The bonus game in Alaska is Bingo. Yes, Bingo. And it is played exactly as any other Bingo game would be played. Once you get Bingo you will receive your bonus pay out. Although the game rules do not tell you how the amount is determined.

On the whole I think the bonus games found in Greece have the most winning potential.

But on the whole this is a rather entertaining online slots game and a credit to iSlots. You will actually want to play until you have seen all three destinations. And I feel that is a credit to the game. It is not an online slots game that will bore you inside of fifteen minutes. And, for the most part, the bonus games are pretty decent. The graphics and symbols are well-chosen to represent these countries, although they are probably a bit on the stereotypical side.

But it should entertain most online slots players and is a strong member of the Rival lineup. It is defiantly worth the time to play. And probably a less expensive way to get a glimpse of these countries. If only international travel were so easy!

Around the World in How Many Spins?

February 8th, 2010

Rival recently released a new iSlots called Baby Boomers Cash Cruise. And, wow, is this iSlot involved!

Players will start this online slots game at the Travel Agency. Once they have landed three Cruise Ships they will be taken to the bonus spinner to determine where they will go on the next cruise: Greece, Alaska or the Caribbean.

This means that there are actually four different slots games wrapped up in to this one game, one for each destination and one for the Travel Agency. All of them are five reels with fifteen paylines. Each has its own set of symbols and pay tables. When you move from one game to another the amount you wagered in the previous game–$0.01 up to $0.50—will be retained.

The first game slots players will encounter is the Travel Agency. Here they will spin until they land three Cruise Ships. Once they have landed those they will be transported to the spinner to determine where they will be headed.

One of the destinations is Greece. The graphics here are bright with some decorative vines, and symbols to remind players that this nation has many islands and a lot of history.

It is in Greece there a player can encounter a Wild with a 2x multiplier and the 10 Can’t Lose Free Spins. The Wild is the Dolphin, and he will multiply any winning combinations that he creates 2x. The 10 Free Spins are awarded when a player lands three Ship’s Wheels. When the free spins are activated, the Wild Dolphin will take up all the places on the first and fifth reels so that you will win something on every single spin.

Another possible destination is the Caribbean. Here again we find graphics in an array of bright colors and symbols to bring to mind the relaxation and beaches to be found in the islands.

There are no Wilds or free spin in the Caribbean. But there are two bonus games to be won. Landing three clay pigeons will activate a game in which you can shoot up to 12 clay pigeons—the more you shoot the more you win. The other bonus game is activated when you land three shuffleboard symbols, and you get to play shuffleboard. Players will play until they have won three times, sliding the puck to land in a space with a random prize amount.

At the time of this writing I have yet to play in the Alaska game. And therein lies the biggest irritation with this online slots game: you have no idea how long you will be ‘visiting’ a country. Nor how many times you will visit a country.

So in approximately 900 spins I still have not gotten all the way around the world—but I have visited some places more than once. And one I have spun my way to Alaska I will let you know how it is there.

Be a Real One-Armed Bandit

February 5th, 2010

Rival Gaming is created an incredible iSlot in which you get to be the bad guy.

As we know, iSlots will allow players to play through a story line. The story line with Reel Crime-Art Heist is that you are an art thief and you are stealing a masterpiece painting. It is not that often that you get to be the bad guy, make money and avoid jail at the same time. …Although if you wind up unlucky in this iSlot your game just might end in jail rather than in the islands.

Reel Crime-Art Heist is a five reel iSlot with fifteen paylines. As stated the story here is to follow the art thieves on their quest to steal and sell a grand master painting. This means that there are several levels to play through to get to the prize at the end of the story. Bonus features along the way help you to get the tools you need to succeed in your theft, and will also score you more winnings.

The Scatter symbol is the Reel Crime-Art Heist logo. Three of those will activate a bonus round in which you can win more. And this is a real bonus game that pays out. Before writing this review, I took this iSlot for a spin. In one bonus round I won $14.25. I know, that does not sound like a lot, but then I was wagering $0.01 per line. So one penny compared to $14.25 is not a bad haul for a bonus game.

To help your regular game winnings along is the Forger—a highly appropriate 2x Wild symbol. What better symbol to substitute for any other symbol than a Forger.

The Mona Lisa is another interesting symbol. Just having 2, 3, 4 or 5 of this great lady anywhere on the reels will win you a bonus of 2, 12, 25 or 100 times your total wager. She is grand work of art indeed.

This is an entertaining iSlot with a fun story line and potential to create decent wins for slots players without wagering an arm and a leg—and you will need those to make your get-away!

Playtech works with Sega to Build New Slots Brand

February 1st, 2010

Playtech recently signed a contract to work as the software provider for the line of Sega brand online slots games. It was Sega’s wish to enter the online casino industry. And with their popular games with incredible graphics it is no wonder that they want to. Graphics are a large part of online slots—the whole visual appeal lies there.

Some of Sega’s most well-known video games will now be appearing as online slots games, such as The House of the Dead, Virtua Fighter, Phantasy Star and Nights. Sega will be pairing its well-known graphics and characters with the innovation and graphics power that Playtech is known for.

Sega and Playtech’s joint efforts seem to be touching on aspects of the increasingly popular iSlots.

For example, one of their new online slots games, The House of the Dead, will feature the usual round of bonus giving features, such as Wild symbols, scatters, free spins and a bonus game. But it is the bonus game that that begins to seem like an iSlot.

In The House of the Dead slots game’s bonus game players must choose five possible paths to escape from the zombies. Prizes are of course based on which ways you choose to escape. And while this sounds like a simple pick-and-win bonus game, it is the story aspect of choosing how to escape the zombies that brought to my mind the iSlots.

If The House of the Dead is any indication of what Playtech and Sega are planning on rolling out, this new brand of online slots may become quite popular and give the other software providers and online casinos something to top. If that’s the case, then slots players will be the ones to benefit with newer and better games.

Video Slots vs. iSlots

January 22nd, 2010

Are iSlots really the next big thing in online slots games? Many will say they are. I am going to take a look at a few aspects of slots games and compare them for you: graphics, game play, special symbols and bonus games.

First we will look at the graphics offered by both video slots and iSlots. Here, both types of slots are pretty even. Both present colorful games and animated symbols on the reels. No real difference here.

However, there is a difference when you come to game play. In video slots players will play trying to land Scatters, Wilds and the symbol that triggers the bonus game. But iSlots offer players a storyline to follow. This makes the game a little more interesting to play. While video slots can get the feeling of just clicking “Spin” iSlots allow players to feel like they are trying to achieve something other than winning.

Players will have to play until they trigger the first bonus round, get what they need, and return to regular play until they trigger the bonus game again and win the next item they need in the storyline. While this does not impact how much you win overall, it does divert some attention from just winning a jackpot. These iSlots are designed to make you want to help the main character achieve a certain outcome.

Both video slots and iSlots feature special symbols such as Scatters and Wilds. And both types of slots games will often have those symbols animated. So there is not much difference here.

While a story line is the first thing that sets iSlots apart, their bonus games do have a leg up when it comes to bonus games. They do not necessarily pay more, but they are more interactive. While the majority of video slots bonuses are of the pick-and-win variety, the bonus games in iSlots are truly interactive. Players must do something for the character, ergo themselves, to win.

As to the question of whether iSlots are better than video slots, a player would have to determine how much he needs the story line, whether it is integral to his slots play or not. Also to determine is whether you as a player like the ease of pick-and-win or whether you want to interact and “play” the character to win.

But it does seem that iSlots might be on to something new. The slots world will just have to wait and see what more comes from iSlots in the next couple of years.

Rival Gaming Releases iSlot Heavyweight Gold

January 8th, 2010

As far as the online gaming community goes, iSlots are the next step in the technological progression of online slots. Rival Gaming, a gaming software provider who is known for their cutting edge technology, has been releasing iSlots out into the wilds of the online gaming world.

An iSlot is an interactive video slots game—a video slot much like what we see online at most casinos. What makes iSlots different is that they have interactive story lines that players play through as they are playing the slots. The story lines can have alternate endings that can change depending on how you play. They also have multiple bonus rounds.

The latest from Rival Gaming’s iSlots line is called Heavyweight Gold.

This is a twenty payline iSlot whose story follows a boxer through his training and rough spots as he works towards winning the most coveted prize—the Heavy Weight Gold Belt. The interactiveness of this slots game can almost be experienced by the players as they get caught up in his quest to win the belt.

Rival Gaming has given this iSlot a bonus round in which you play to help the boxer defeat one of three opponents. This game is so interactive and well put together story-wise that each of the three opponents have their own style.

The whole point behind these new iSlots that are starting to show up in online casinos, is to create a not just a great player experience, but to surround the player with the story and the visuals to further the main character along. It is like giving slots games story lines like video games do.

I am sure that we will see more and more iSlots released throughout the course of this year.
