Bees in Your Slots

July 20th, 2011

Top Game is a new software developer when compared to how long others have been in the online slots industry. But that does not mean they are without merit. Indeed, in a time when most software developers are pulling back on bonus features, usually only offering free spins, Top Game is holding on by offering players a bonus game and a free spins feature in their online slots games.

Just check out Top Game’s newest online slots game to their lineup: Bee Land.

This new five reel, twenty payline online slots game offers players both a free spins feature and a bonus game in addition to the fun, bright, comical graphics that depict the lives of bees. Some graphics have worker bees doing jobs other than making honey, such as painting, dancing and even a policeman.

Players landing three or more Honey Makers anywhere on the reels will trigger the free spins feature. Three Honey Makers will award twelve free spins with a 3 xs multiplier; four symbols will change that multiplier to 5 xs; five will give players a 10 xs multiplier.

But it is the Wild Flower that triggers the Honey Queen Bonus Game. Land three or more Wild Flowers on the reels and players are whisked away to the first stage of the three stage bonus game. In the first stage the player chooses a flower from which a bee will collect pollen. The second stage has the player choosing the honey maker the pollen is put into. The third stage has the bee taking the honey one of three hives. If the player chooses wisely, the bee will give the honey to the Honey Queen and receive a kiss and receive an extra bonus prize. But both in stage two and three the wrong choice could end the game. A bonus prize in a random amount is awarded at each stage if the player does not choose a booby trapped item.

To top off this new Top Game online slots game, the Queen Bee’s crown is the jackpot symbol. Landing five of them will bring out the Queen Bee herself and award the 5,000 jackpot.

Considering that Top Game owns all of the online casinos that their software powers, such as Rome Casino, players will find Bee Land.

Fishing Meets Slots

July 1st, 2011

We have a holiday weekend coming up starting with the end of today. Some will go camping, others will host parties and cookouts and others still will take mini vacations. Some will spend time on favorite hobbies. If you are an online slots player who likes fishing, then Top Game has an online slots game that could ‘take you away’ this weekend.

The name of this online slots game is Lucky Fishing. It has a cartoonish and comedic theme that will have players spinning the reels to make their catch. Top Game has given this online slots game five reels and twenty payline for fishing up some coins. Symbols include a couple of fishermen, some fish and various fishing paraphernalia, including Bobbers, Poles, Tackle, Bait and even a Boot.

The Wide Eyed Crab is the Wild here. Landing five of this little guy will award an online slots player the 10,000 Lucky Fishing jackpot.

Top Game also gave Lucky Fishing a Scatter. Landing the Tropical Fish can award up to a 100 xs multiplier on the total triggering wager.

And naturally there this online slots game comes with a bonus game: The Big Catch. Players must land the Lucky Fisherman on reels two, three and four on any active payline in order to trigger this bonus game. This is where the fishing comes into play in this online slots game. Players will be casting their virtual lines to reel not only fish but their bonus prizes too. The better the fishing, the better the bonus prize.

Players who are looking to do a little fishing from the comfort of their own home can check out Lucky Fishing at any Top Game powered online casino, such as Rome Casino. It is a fun online slots game the combines the fun of fishing with the thrill of online slots.

Slots Rock the Orchestra

June 30th, 2011

Orchestra music is not as boring as a lot of people think, especially when it is orchestra music as presented by the online slots game Mad Orchestra.

Mad Orchestra is a five reel, twenty payline creation by Top Game, and up and coming software developer of online slots games. The graphics are a tad reminiscent of Microgaming in that they are bright, fun and a bit on the cartoonish side. But there is an intricacy to them that is all Top Game.

As you can guess about this online slots game, the theme centers around an orchestra. Symbols include musicians and instruments. But the two calls to fame symbols in this online slots game are the Conductor and the Diva.

The Conductor brings to mind Mozart. Well to me he does. Either that or mad scientist meets orchestra conductor. This guy is the Wild in Mad Orchestra. Landing five of him will award the player the game’s jackpot of 5,000 coins.

The Diva is a whole other thing. By that I mean she is the trigger for the bonus game. Players must land her on reels two, three and four at the same time in order to trigger the Diva Melody Bonus Game. In this bonus game, players choose what notes the Diva will sing. Once the selection of notes is made, the game begins and she sings the song. The better the tune, the better the bonus prize that is awarded.

Top Game is one of the newest providers of online slots games, but already they are making a name for themselves. If Mad Orchestra is any indication, they will become quite popular. Mad Orchestra can be found at Top Game powered online casinos, such as Rome Casino. I look forward to seeing what other online slots games Top Game will turn out.

Playtech’s Tennis Slots

June 9th, 2011

Here we go with another new online slots game for June, this one to do with tennis. But then Playtech is a well-known software provider in Europe and it is the height of the tennis season in Europe, so the tennis theme makes sense.

Tennis Stars is a five reel online slots game with forty paylines. Rather than only showing three symbols per reel, Tennis Stars shows four; and naturally the symbols revolve around tennis. Playtech has given this new online slots game both a free spins feature and a bonus game.

The free spins feature is tied into this online slots game’s wild symbol. The wild symbol is the Trophy and it only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. The Trophy has to appear on all three reels at the same time in order to trigger the free spins feature.

The feature begins with the player being awarded a payout of 10x the triggering bet, and then commences with fifteen free spins, each with a 3x multiplier on it. The free spins feature can be retriggered on a free spin to be awarded fifteen more free spins. There is no limit to the retriggering.

With the free spins tied to the wild symbol, it makes sense that the bonus game is tied to the scatter, which is the Tennis Rackets symbol. Landing three or more of the Tennis Rackets will take players to a second screen where they will play the Championship Bonus Game.

Slots players first choose to be represented by the male or female tennis player. Once a choice is made, the slots player then opens a singles tennis match against the game’s computer; players may start the match with a flat serve or a slice serve. It is okay for the slots player to lose points during the match, but must win the match, which will additionally reward players with an extra payout of 50x the triggering bet. Points won during the match will determine how much of a bonus prize the slots player receives.

It is unsurprising that a new tennis themed online slots game sprang up. This is not a bad thing. I repeat, not a bad thing. I am happy to see it because it means movement forward in the online casino industry in the wake of the indictments in the US. Not that Playtech software was available to US players, but the indictments shook up the whole industry. Anyway, bravo to Playtech for the sporty new online slots game.

Asian Beauty Slots

April 5th, 2011

New month. New online slots games. And this month will prove no different. And as usual Microgaming is the first out of the gate in April.

One of their new online slots games to launch this month is the Asian Beauty slots game. The five reel Asian Beauty will join the Microgaming ranks of online slots games with no paylines. Yes, Asian Beauty is to be another slots game with no paylines but the 243 ways to win feature. This means that symbols can land anywhere and payouts issued so long as the same symbol appears on consecutive reels from left to right.

True to form Microgaming has outfitted the geisha on the reels with colorful but tasteful graphics along with smooth animations. It is reminiscent of a couple other Asian themed online slots games that Microgaming offers.

Microgaming has given this online slots game free spins and a bonus game.

On the reels players will see a Lacquer Box. The Lacquer Box is the key to the free spins bonus. Landing three Lacquer Boxes awards ten free spins while four and five award fifteen and twenty five respectively. All free spins, regardless of how many are awarded, have a 2 xs multiplier on them.

Microgaming has tried something a little bit different in regards to the bonus game for Asian Beauty—it is randomly triggered. Tis true. There is no set way to trigger the bonus game, no designated symbols or number symbols to land. It can be triggered at any point during regular play.

But when it is triggered players will see a second screen with twelve mirrors and the four Geishas of Asian Beauty from the reels. Each Geisha has been assigned a multiplier: 15 xs, 20 xs, 25 xs or 30 xs. Players then choose mirrors until three matching Geisha faces have been revealed; the three matching faces are then matched to the appropriate Geisha on the side and her multiplier is awarded. And that is the Asian Beauty bonus game.

While the 243 ways to win feature is not new, I think having the bonus game randomly triggered is a way of balancing the 243 ways to win feature. It will be interesting to see how players react to a randomly triggered bonus game.

A Touch of Garlic for Your Slots?

April 4th, 2011

If you are spinning the reels of Slotland’s latest online slots game, Jewels of the Ancients, then, yes, you do want to that garlic.

Jewels of the Ancients is the newest vampire themed online slots game. All five reels and nineteen paylines are devoted to vampire hunting. The idea is to slay the vampires in order to collect the precious treasure.

And, yes, to help you on your way to vampire slaying there really are garlic symbols on the reels, along with jewels, maps, vampires and chalices.

The creators of Slotland’s latest addition have given Jewels of the Ancients a bonus game, as most online slots games worth their reels will have. And, no, the bonus game is not a clever way of merely giving players free spins. This is a real bonus game that takes players to a second screen.

Landing three Full Moons will trigger the bonus game. This second screen-er will show players a bunch of cards. The player’s only task is to flip as many cards as possible. The key is to find as many bonus symbols as possible for the game ends. Be sure to have your garlic on hand.

The bonus symbols are a bat, a fallen angel, an ankh, a gargoyle and two vampire favorites: the ever well-known Dracula and Nosferatu. Finding all six of these bonus symbols will award players with a bonus prize of $1,000.

Slotland has tied Jewels of the Ancients to its progressive jackpot, which it is worth nothing that all of the online slots games at Slotland are tied to the progressive jackpot. But players are only eligible to trigger the progressive jackpot is they are wagering the maximum on a spin. The maximum by the way is $20.

While not one of the major names in the online casino industry, Slotland is still a well-established online casino. While we do not normally see vampire themed online slots games until October, it has not stopped other software developers. Jewels of the Ancients with its garlic symbols is sure to be a fast hit at the online casino.

Gushers Gold Slots

April 1st, 2011

Okay, so the post from this morning was an April Fool’s Day post. There is no secret community. Reels on slot machines are not going to be done away with.

So on to some real slots news. Let’s take a look at the latest offering from Rival Gaming.

Rival is a software provider known for their smooth graphics and fun animations. With their latest online slots game, which is surprisingly not a 3D slots game, Rival has put their graphic skills into showcasing the grand life of the Texas Oil Tycoon.

BP should think about hiring them.

Gushers Gold is another five reel online slots game which is all tricked out in the trappings Rival is known for.

The Oil Barrel is the expanding wild, helping players to maximize winning combinations in a turn. But oil does not flow everywhere and like so neither does the Oil Barrel appear everywhere. The Oil Barrel only appears on reels one, three and five.

The Tycoon’s Girl is the free spins symbol. Landing three of her—mind out of the gutter, people—on the reels will award five, ten or fifteen free spins depending on whether three, four or five symbols, respectively, were landed.

Then there is the oil drilling bonus game. Landing three Oil Rigs will set off the bonus game, whisking players off to a second screen with three oil rigs on it. Players then choose which rig they want to drill with and which depth they want to drill to. Once chosen player then click the reveal button and are shown their bonus prize.

Rival has set the jackpot for Gold Gushers at 1,000 coins for landing five of the Oil Tycoon himself.

Rival is first out of the gate for April, we wish them well; and bring on more new online slots.

Cost of Slots’ Bonus Games

February 25th, 2011

Online slots players love their bonus games.

Not only do bonus games give players the feeling of finally winning something other than a small line win, but bonus games are usually the highlight of the entertainment found in a slot game.

But what is the cost of a bonus game in an online slots game, and is the bonus prize worth the cost?

In all honesty there is no way to say exactly what the cost is on a bonus game. The cost is what you have to wager—in other words to spend—on spins to trigger the bonus game.

For some bonus games they are fairly easy to trigger, and that means that the cost to you as a player is not as high. But if it consistently pays out small bonus prizes, you might not be better off in the long run. Paying more in spins just to trigger a bonus round that does not repay you the cost of the spins is not worth the bonus game.

For example, let’s say you spend $20 on spins to trigger the bonus game, but the bonus game only awards you a bonus prize of $15, your net is a negative $5. In this instance the bonus game cost you money.

Now if it took you $20 to trigger a bonus game and the bonus game awarded you $60, then your net is $40 in bonus money. You made extra money. And as long as that online slots game is fairly consistent in triggering the bonus game and paying out more than what the spins cost you, it would be a good online slots game to continue playing.

To be completely honest slots players are more likely to come across the former example than the later. Remember that online slots games are the cash cows of online casinos—they are meant to slowly take your money over time. Bonus games are not a way of ‘beating’ the house.

Bonus games are a way for the house to give you the illusion that you are winning when in all reality you have probably spent more than you won.

Yes, it is true that players can strike it lucky with bonus games, and win large bonus prizes. My advice there is to stop playing and hang on to the bonus.

Rival Takes Their Slots at the Opera

February 7th, 2011

One of Rival Gaming’s newest online slots games this month is an opera themed video slot called Opera Night. The five reel, twenty payline online slots game has gone live at all Rival Gaming powered online casinos.

And while the theme of this new online slots game leans heavily on opera, there is a fair amount of theatre mixed in. Yes, there is a difference between the two.

Rival Gaming is not the first to create an opera themed slots game either. The first one to do so was Microgaming a couple of years back.

But what you online slots players are more concerned with are the bonus features. Do not get me wrong, the graphics and animation should not be overlooked, but make no mistake—Rival has loaded up Opera Night with a good number of bonus features.

For starters there are the free spins. Landing three, four or five Conductors will launch five, ten or twenty free spins, respectively. Players will be quite pleased to note all wins during the free spins have a 3x multiplier applied to them.

Another fun bonus feature is one that Rival has dubbed Opera Drop. The symbol, which is quite appropriate if you know your ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ is the Masked Singer. Landing at least three of him will cause him to disappear in a puff of purple smoke, causing the symbols above him to drop down. The dropping symbols have the potential to create new winning combinations.

There is of course a bonus game, triggered by landing three or more Opera Viking Ladies. Slots players will find the stage set just for the star of Opera Night, the Opera Viking Lady. The stage is set with an array of glasses. All an online slots player need do is select the pitch she sings at. The bonus prize is determined by which glass her pitch shatters.

Going back to those graphics and animations, they are the icing on the cake. For slots players who were not already fans of theatre and the opera, they might just find that with the bonus features built into Opera Night, opera and theatre are not so bad after all.

Slots That Go Boom

January 20th, 2011

Net Entertainment, while not being a software developer that I normally cover, has created and launched a new online slots game this month that I found rather intriguing. The name of this new online slots game is called Boom Brothers, and it is intriguing because its whole point is to trigger the bonus game in order to blow things up.

The theme of Boom Brothers is that of three brothers who are on a race against each other to mine diamonds, rubies and gold. But there is a certain way to trigger the bonus game that is the aim of the slots game.

Players must first trigger the Railtrack Bonus game. To do so, players must land three of the Railtrack symbols on an active payline on reels one, two and three. Once that is done, this online slots game will then line the tracks up and the last two reels will be spun. The hope is that the final two track pieces will land so that the track crosses all five reels.

If the track is completed the Boom Brothers cross the reels, leading you to the bonus game as well as awarding a 4x multiplier. If only one piece of track lands, players receive a 3x multiplier on their triggering wager; and if no track pieces land then they receive a 2x multiplier.

As for the Boom Brothers bonus game, players will see on a second screen all three brothers in their own mining carts. Underneath all their tracks are three mining carts, each with either a diamond, ruby of gold bar in it. Players keep choosing one of the bottom mining carts to reveal a number of moves, which will cause one of the Boom Brothers to start moving across the tracks.

It takes five moves for one Boom Brother to cross his own track. Once he reaches the other side he blows up the rock face in front of him, revealing his desired precious treasure as well as the players’ bonus prize. Which treasure is worth more for the player? Well, it changes—diamonds do not always mean the biggest prize.

There was just something to the mining race of the Boom Brothers online slots game that, combined with the whole point of the slots game being to blow up rocks in the bonus game, that was just too intriguing to pass up writing about.
