Slot Tournaments

November 2nd, 2009

Slot machines, though fun to play, have a certain risk. There is a high house edge and there is no strategy that the player can employ that would reduce that edge. Therefore, the odds are always stacked against the player. You can keep putting money in the machine, but the odds will never change. There are set by the random number generator.

For that reason, slot tournaments are a good deal and are extremely popular. The gameplay of slot tournament is different than playing the slots under a normal setting. Instead of playing for payouts, you play for points. Also, you don’t wager any real money.

With most slot tournaments, there is an entry fee that the players have to pay to join. Paying that fee gives them a certain number of credits. Each player is given the same number of credits. The players then all have a limited amount of time to get in as many spins as possible and accumulate as many points as possible. The players with the most points at the end of the tournament will earn prizes.

Because players wager with credits provided by the casino, there is little risk in playing slot tournaments, as long as the entry fee isn’t too high. Players wager with the credits they are given, which act as coins or tokens. Since there is a limited amount of time and a lot of credits, it is important to spin fast and make sure all of the credits are used. Any unused spins at the end of the round are wasted.

In slot tournament, points are awarded in a similar way to payouts under normal conditions. Where normally different combinations of symbols yield different sized payouts, depending on the odds of each symbol combination, in slot tournaments different combinations produce a different amount of points.

Prizes are doled out differently depending on the slot tournament. Normally there is a prize pool and the biggest prize goes to the first place winner, with the second place finisher getting a smaller prize and each prize getting progressively smaller. Some tournaments only award prizes to the top few players while others may reward the top 50 or even 100 players.

With no money bet on the slots and the possibility of prizes, the only risk is that the player will pay an entry fee and get nothing in return. However, compared to the possibility of losing a lot of money by constantly feeding the coins into the machine in the hopes of making money, the risk is low. At the very least, the risk for slot tournaments is as low as it gets for playing the slots.
