Microgaming has done it again. Not only do they create iSlots and have the license to create Marvel comic online slots, they now have the rights from the Lord of the Rings movies…all three: ‘The Fellowship of the Ring,’ ‘The Two Towers’ and ‘The Return of the King.’
But what is more amusing is that when Microgaming made the announcement, they announced that they would be making a series of online slots based off of Lord of the Rings. But that should not come as a surprise given that the Lord of the Rings movie series encompassed three very long movies—and that is the theatre version, not those special boxed editions with the extra footage.
A spokesperson for Microgaming has said, “It is a strategic and timely decision to secure exclusive, online video slot game rights to a trilogy that generated $3 billion in worldwide box office, and was nominated for a total of thirty Academy Awards, of which they won seventeen, including Best Picture.”
CEO Roger Raatgever is very excited about having the license. He is quoted as saying, “The Lord of the Rings has a huge entrenched fan base with over ninety-seven percent awareness of the film franchise, as well as phenomenal and unprecedented home video success.”
In other words, Microgaming is banking on the popularity of the movies to reel in profits. Shame the books never got such attention.
But rest assured that Microgaming will do them justice in terms of quality. The graphics will most likely be on the high-end, and I am sure that they will have some rather interesting bonus games. We can all hope that Microgaming will not hold back with their technology to deliver some superior online slots.
After all they will have to produce some quality online slots for that fan base that they are so excited about attracting.
