Coins in Slots Games

December 24th, 2010

It used to be that the only thing you had to worry about when wagering on a slots game was choosing if you wanted to wager on all of the paylines; and if you did not want to wager on all of the paylines, then you have to choose which paylines you are going to wager on.

I know it does not sound hard, but for some players who take their slots playing seriously, choosing paylines is serious business.

But to make figuring your wager out even more fun, slots games developers—both the slot machine manufacturers and the software developers of online slots games—have thrown another wrench into the wager figuring: coins.

Granted, coins are not exactly the newest things on the slots block, but some of the new players are rather confused about them, and that confusion can cost them extra money. So it is only fair to talk about them.

Slots players wager a number of coins per payline now. Generally players can wager one coin per payline up to ten coins per payline, although I have seen one online slots game with a maximum coin wager per payline of twenty coins.

Players must assign a value to the coin being wagered. Or you can use the slots game’s default setting, which most likely is set on the maximum amount.

So you can tell the slots game that you want to wager two coins per payline, and set the value of a coin at $0.05. At two coins per payline you are wagering $0.10 per payline.

Remember the value of the coin is the monetary value you are wagering, such as $0.01, $0.05 or even $1 per coin. Then you have to choose how many of those coins to wager on your slots game. After that you can choose your paylines.

I know it sounds complicated. Thankfully slots games have a display showing you what your current wager is. You can keep pushing the buttons to adjust the amount of your coin and how many coins you are wagering per payline. You are not going to put any money on the line until you click Spin—remember that.
