Slots Strategy: Slots Betting and Payouts

August 24th, 2010

Online slots and slot machines are a bit tricky when it comes to your slots betting to payout chances. Naturally, a slots player would have to be tricky in return in their slots strategy to help compensate for it.

Let’s say that you are a nickel player, meaning that you wager a nickel per payline. But you are a player who likes to play with multiple coins per payline. So in effect you are more of a quarter player because you are wagering closer to a quarter on a payline.

So you would think that the online slots game or slot machine that you are playing would recognize the increased wagering, and, recognizing the increased amount of wagering, payout accordingly like a quarter slots game would.

You would be wrong in thinking that. Remember that the house wants to hang on to every little bit of an edge that they can. It does not matter that online slots and slot machines are built to have an edge to take more money than they payout.

Even though the online slots game or slot machine is able to accept larger wagers because of multiple coins, it does not mean that it will payout on a larger scale.

So what should you do in terms of your slots strategy?

For starters look at your own slots betting. How are you betting? You say you are a nickel player, but you are wagering five nickels per payline, which is actually wagering a quarter per payline instead.

Look at your total bet per payline. If the number of coins you are betting has you betting a quarter per payline then you are not a nickel player. You are a quarter player.

And you want that quarter payout scale you will not find it betting multiple coins on a nickel slots game. But you will find that payout scale on a quarter machine while only wagering one quarter per payline.

The point is that you have to adjust your thinking about your own slots betting in order to proper work out your slots strategy. This means, in terms of slots strategy, looking at your slots betting and what you are betting in total per line rather than what coin you are betting.

Daily Online Slots Tournaments

August 23rd, 2010

For online slots players who want a lot of tournament action there is an answer.

For Online Slots Tournament Monday may I present Super Slots’ daily online slots tournaments.

Everyday Super Slots hosts an online slots tournament that begins at 12:01 am and runs through 10:59 pm. While these are not twenty four hour online slots tournaments, they are pretty close to be them. They do allow fans of online slots and fans of tournaments get action on the reels without having to wait for the weekend tournaments.

These daily online slots tournaments also do not have the price tag that weekend tournaments have. Typically weekend tournaments have entry fees of $10 or $15, some a little more than that. But these daily online slots tournaments from Super Slots only cost $3 to enter.

As for the prize pool, players are playing for the pot in these tournaments. So while the fewer players there are in a tournament the better your chances of winning, but the smaller the prize will be. In turn, the more players there are, the larger the prize pool is and the more money the top players receive.

In other words, you can tell your friends in hope that one of you wins a larger prize. Or you can keep your knowledge of the tournaments to yourself, and increase your chances of winning.

Thankfully Super Slots rotates the online slots game that is used in each daily online slots tournament. Other online casinos will choose five games and rotate them. But that means that Monday’s game is always the same. Super Slots has more than five that they rotate, with a minimum of twelve per month.

The games being used for the rest of the month of August are as follows:

08/23: Magic Monkey
08/24: Vegas Party
08/25: Funky Chicken
08/26: 20,000 Leagues
08/27: Black Magic
08/28: Fat Cat
08/29: Black Magic
08/30: 20,000 Leagues
08/31: X Marks the Spot

With a healthy variety of slots games being used and the low entry fee, Super Slots has certainly set up a strong daily online slots tournament offering and schedule.

Freeroll Tournaments at VIP Slots

August 23rd, 2010

It is Monday again, and that means that it is Online Slots Tournament Monday.

This Monday I clicked my way over to VIP Slots to see what they were offering online slots players. I found a rather nice sounding online slots tournament—and it begins today.

VIP Slots is hosting a freeroll online slots tournament that will begin today, Monday, August 23rd, and run through next Monday, August 30th. And as stated, this is a freeroll online slots tournament, so there is no entry fee and no reason not to play. Especially since this tournament is running for a whole week.

Typically an online casino will host a freeroll tournament to bring in some tournament traffic and create a little excitement. They are not meant to be big time tournaments with big rewards; typically they will only award bonus money or small cash amounts.

However, VIP Slots is treating this differently. They are going to be giving away a $3,000 prize pool. That is an unusual amount for a prize pool being given away to winners of a freeroll online slots tournament.

This freeroll online slots tournament will be played out on Wheel of Chance. This is a five reel online slots game with twenty paylines of play. Wheel of Chance offers players the chance to trigger the bonus game and free spins.

Both features certainly help in tournaments, giving players a little extra boost. Again, the choice of online slots game is another thing that sets VIP Slots above when considering that many online casinos will choose a game for their tournaments that does not offer a bonus game.

The combined freeroll element and the larger than normal prize pool for such an online slots tournament is just the sort of player pleasing that VIP Slots is known for.

This week’s freeroll online slots tournament was the fourth week long freeroll tournament that VIP Slots has offered this month. We can only hope that they continue this type of online slots tournament in September.

Online Slots Meets Clue

August 20th, 2010

Clue was one of my favorite board games when I was a kid. I think it was the mystery aspect of the game that I liked—the Whodunit question that hangs over the game. Naturally I was quite happy when I learned that there was an online slots game that had been based on Clue.

For some odd reason when Wagerworks created this online slots game they named it Cluedo rather than just calling it Clue, like how they called the Monopoly online slots game Monopoly. Oh, well, I am not going to try to divine the workings of game developers.

On to Cluedo.

Cluedo is a five reel online slots game made, as already stated, by Wagerworks with twenty paylines. The theme of this online slots game was taken from the board game Clue, and as such features the infamous cast of Clue: Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Ms White and Colonel Mustard.

Cluedo features my favorite presentation of the traditional 9, 10, J, Q, K and Ace symbols in any slots game. Recall that there were six weapons in the board game. And that the traditional symbols are six in number. Guess what graces each of the traditional symbols. That is right—a weapon.

Like any good online slots game this one does offer players two Wilds and a Scatter. The Wilds will substitute for all symbols except for the Scatter. The Wild symbol quite plainly says Wild, and the other Wild symbol says MegaJackpots. Both will give a 2x multiplier for any combination they complete.

The Scatter is the Mystery symbol. Landing three or more will trigger a flash of lightening and review five golden secret reels. The free spins feature begins with 15 free spins, but more can be triggered during a free spin session.

Cluedo does offer a progressive jackpot, but there are some things you need to know before playing about this one.

Only players who are betting the maximum have a shot at triggering it. The only way to trigger it is to land five MegaJackpots symbols on the center payline. It must be the center payline. Any other payline will only award the standard amount for landing five of that symbol.

One more downside to this online slots game is that it is one of the few out there in the online casino world that you cannot play for free. It is real money players only.

Overall, I like the theme of the Cluedo online slots game. But the real money players only part is a big turn off, and the center payline being the only line for triggering the MegaJackpots is another downer.

Online Slots Meets Monopoly

August 20th, 2010

Monopoly. You either love it or you hate it. Personally, I like the game. So I was quite happy to learn that Wagerworks had created an online slots game based on the Milton Bradley classic.

As an online slots game, Monopoly is a five reel online slots game with nine paylines. The regular game is a little on the basic side. It features Monopoly themed-graphics, but the classic fruit symbols are there too.

With the Monopoly online slots game it is the bonus features that truly make this game.

Naturally there is a Wild: Mr. Monopoly himself. He will substitute for all symbols in the game except for the two bonus symbols. Sadly, he does not offer a multiplier on combinations he completes. I guess he has got to keep a little money to himself.

But the Pass Go bonus game more than makes up for a lack of a Wild multiplier. The Pass Go bonus game is triggered by landing three Dice on a payline. Once triggered the regular playing screen vanishes and players find themselves with a Monopoly board on their screen.

The Dice that triggered the bonus game then each reveal a number of dice rolls for the actual game. Players have the allotted amount of rolls to travel around the Monopoly board to collect bonus prizes to add to their starting bonus amount of 10 coins.

Each deed on the board has a bonus amount assigned to it, and landing on that deed automatically adds that bonus amount to the player’s total. Every time Go is passed the amount of the deed bonuses increases. If you land directly on Go you receive a 2x multiplier.

Free Parking will award a random bonus amount for landing on it. And Chance will move the player to a random spot on the board to collect that bonus and continue from there.

Even Jail is not bad in this bonus game. Players have three chances to roll doubles to not only get out of jail, but to get a multiplier for their bonus. Rolling doubles the first time awards a 5x multiplier; the second time awards a 3x multiplier; and the third time awards a 2x multiplier. If you do not roll doubles you get to leave Jail anyway and continue on your way.

When the bonus game is over any multipliers you have won are factored into your bonus prize before returning you to regular game play.

Thanks to that Pass Go bonus game, the Monopoly online slots game is quite full of fun features and chances to win money.

Beetles and Online Slots Games

August 19th, 2010

Shh.

There are bugs in your online slots game.

More specifically, there are beetles.

Actually this is another 9 reel, five payline online slots game called Beetle Frenzy.

While Chinese Kitchen was a graphically entertaining online slots game, it lacked features that online slots players expect online slots games to have. Those features being free spins and a bonus game. Oh, and a Wild.

Actually this online slots game has several bonus features.

There are two bonus games to begin with:

The Bug Collector bonus game is triggered when three Glass Jars are landed on a payline. Then there is the Flower Frenzy bonus game. There are three different colored flowers in this online slots game. Landing three of the same color on a payline will trigger the Flower Frenzy bonus game.

As for the free spins, any symbol can trigger them. Which is why this is called the Lucky Spin feature. All that needs to happen is to either land the same symbol in all four corners, or land the same symbol in the middle space of all four sides.

The Lightening Beetle is the Wild. This little guy will substitute for any symbol in the game other than the Scatter.

And speaking of the Scatter, it is the Golden Apple. The multiplier on its payout starts at 2x for two Golden Apples, and maxes out at 400x for eight Golden Apples. And nine Golden Apples is the trigger for the jackpot: 500x the triggering wager.

One thing of note though is that the wagering works a little bit differently on this online slots game. All five paylines are active. The only wager controls the player has it the amount he is wagering and how many coins he is wagering.

The good thing about this is that players are not going to have to increase their wager to activate all the paylines. Think of it as similar to betting on one payline, but getting all the paylines active.

In short, players are only paying to spin the reels on this online slots game without worry over what paylines are active or not.

On the whole, the range of bonus features on this online slots game could make a player quite happy. Not to mention the slightly unique slots betting method here. I do not think I mind having beetles in my online slots game.

New Online Slots Game: Mermaid’s Millions

August 19th, 2010

Microgaming is one of the top producers of online casino games in the online gambling industry. Slots players have come to associate state of the art graphics and game quality from Microgaming online slots games.

And today Microgaming releases another little treasure into the sea of games offered by Virgin Games at their Virgin Casino.

Mermaid’s Millions is the new five reel online slots game to come out of the Microgaming creative pool. This new slots game features fifteen paylines of play. The standard wagering ranges per payline are available. Players can also adjust the number of coins they are waging on a payline from one to five. This makes the maximum coins per spin seventy five.

As for the graphics that Microgaming is reputed to give players, they do not disappoint. Players are given Neptune, Lobsters, Treasure Chests and more. Naturally there is the starring character: mermaids.

Players will find that this new online slots game foes off free spins with a 3x multiplier, triggered by landing three or more of the Scatter symbols.

And of course there is a bonus game which sends players to the sea floor in search of treasure in the barrels, clams and chests on the bottom.

Mermaid’s Millions comes on the success of the Tomb Raider online slots game that Microgaming created and released several months ago. Executives at Virgin Casino are hoping for a repeat performance in popularity.

“Following the enormous success of Tomb Raider launched a few months ago, this latest offering from Microgaming is set to be another big hit with our customers. Like Tomb Raider, Mermaid’s Millions offers the best online game functionality and great graphics—it really is a fantastically fun game to play and is of the quality and high standard that our customers have come to expect from Virgin,” said Warren Eloff, who is Head of Products at Virgin Games.

While Mermaid’s Millions carries the graphics and hallmarks of a good Microgaming online slots game, it does not have the already familiar characters derived from a movie like Tomb Raider does. The coming months will tell if this new online slots game will be as strong as Tomb Raider.

Microgaming Progressive Jackpots

August 18th, 2010

It looks like the reels of some of Microgaming’s progressive jackpots have been spinning in overtime. Several of their progressive online slots games have been paying out quite nicely over the last month. But one progressive online slots game has been paying more than most.

Mega Moolah has been working overtime for the last several months. On one hand it is building and building its grand progressive jackpot, which has now passed the $4 million mark. That last time the grand progressive jackpot was this high was back in early May of 2009 when one lucky player won $6 million from Mega Moolah.

On the other hand Mega Moolah’s major jackpot has been paying out fairly steadily.

Like most of Microgaming’s progressive jackpots, the online slots game has three jackpots: a major and a minor and then the grand progressive jackpot that is linked to all online casinos that offer that particular game. It is the grand progressive that has passed the $4 million mark, and its major jackpot that has been paying out steadily:

July 16th: $28,454
July 22nd: $25,885
July 29th: $55,509
July 31st: $17,419
August 5th: $40,476
August 13th: $75,724
August 15th: $10,343

But Mega Moolah is not the only progressive online slots game from Microgaming to be working hard of late:

Treasure Nile paid out $45,911 to a lucky player on August 5th.

Fruit Fiesta’s highest payout in July was worth $68,625.

Lotsa Loot made three payouts so far in August, the largest one being $8,779.

Cash Splash has made five payouts just in August alone. Of those five, two were worth more than $57,000 each.

It seems that Microgaming is the place to be as we near the end of summer in terms of progressive online slots games. With progressive jackpots climbing past $4 million and major jackpots going off left and right, players will definitely be heading to Microgaming powered online casinos to get in on the progressive online slots gaming action.

Chinese Kitchen 9 Reel Online Slots Game

August 18th, 2010

In light of my discovering 9 reel online slots games yesterday, I decided that I would take a closer look at them to see just what it was like playing them.

One in particular 9 reel online slots caught my eye, perhaps due to lunch plans centering on sushi. Granted this online slots game is not about sushi, but it is about cuisine from the right part of the world.

This online slots game features Fish, Ducks, Caterpillars, Octopi, Snails, Frogs and Turtles. The symbols and graphics are in bright yet subtly subdued colors so as not to hurt the eyes.

This morning’s online slots game is called Chinese Kitchen. And obviously it is a 9 reel online slots game or I would not be playing it today. Like the majority of 9 reel online slots games, Chinese Kitchen only features eight paylines: three horizontal, three vertical and two diagonal.

Wagers per payline can range from $0.01 up to $5. With only eight paylines that means the cost of a single spin can range from $0.08 up to $5. All in all, that is inexpensive for the cost of one spin. The popular twenty five payline online slots games have spins that cost from $0.25 up to $125.

All payout examples are assuming only $0.01 is wagered per payline.

So the lesser cost per spin in Chinese Kitchen is quite nice. I like knowing that I can sit back and enjoy spinning the reels without having to worry that I am spinning too much money away in short period of time.

The payouts are multiplied by your line wager. So say you land three Fish, which has a payout of 40x, your payout is then $0.40.

Like any good online slots game of today, Chinese Kitchen does feature a Scatter: the Crab. This rather surly looking fellow will payout no matter where he lands on the reels. A player could land only one of him and still receive a payout.

The nice thing about receiving a payout for one Crab is that you are guaranteed at least to receive two lines worth, as the horizontal and vertical lines will both intersect him. So you can win $0.02 for one Crab.

The more Crabs that appear on the reels, the more you are paid. Two Crabs is 2x your line bet. At minimum these two Crabs will intersect at least four paylines, giving you a $0.08 payout.

On the whole, I find that I like playing 9 reel online slots games. The fewer paylines cut down on the cost of each spin, yet the paylines cover the entire face of the game. And the Scatter payouts are easily gotten and multiplied.

9 Reel Online Slots Games

August 17th, 2010

While floating around looking for online slots information to share I stumbled across a type of online slots game that I had not heard about before: 9 reel online slots games.

The most reels I have ever heard of on an online slots game before is seven reels, and those can hit your bankroll fairly hard since you need to land seven symbols on the paylines rather than only three or five.

Based on that you would think that I would say that online slots games with nine reels should definitely be avoided. You would think I would say that if seven symbols are hard to land, nine must be next impossible.

Well, you are wrong. Nine reel online slots games are not too bad to play.

This can be owed to their format. The nine reels do not run across the game, nine in a row. Instead they form a cube of three spaces by three spaces, much like the numbers (minus the zero) do on a telephone pad.

When the reels are spin, each of the nine squares spin on their own and stop independently on their own. So while there are not nine vertical spinning reels, there are nine cubes that spin all of the available symbols.

This makes it easier to land symbols on a payline since, because of the cube layout, players only have to land three of the same symbol on a payline.

And speaking of paylines so work a little bit differently too. Again, because of the three by three square layout of the reels, there are not nearly as many paylines as there are on most of the five reel online slots games.

Nine reel online slots games will generally only have up to eight paylines: three horizontal, three vertical and two diagonal. That covers all possible lines of three symbols on the three by three layout of a nine reel online slots game.
