So Many Paylines! So Many Coins! Oh My!

February 26th, 2010

As the technology of online slots games improves, it also seems that the number of payline increases. And so does the number of coins you can wager per line.

More paylines means that you have more opportunities to have a winning spin since there are more combinations now available. But naturally the total amount of a spin increases as well. If you were only betting $0.01 per payline on a twenty five payline slots game, your total wager would be $0.25. Which, really when you think about it is not too bad.

But also with the increased number of paylines there has also come the ability to wager more than one coin per line. What this means is that if $0.01 is being wagered per payline, then a single coin is worth $0.01. Some online slots games now allow multiple coins to be wagered per line, some as much as ten coins per line.

If you were to wager ten coins per line at $0.01 per coin that would actually mean that you were wagering $0.10 per line. And on a twenty five payline slots game that means that you are, really wagering $2.50 per spin. That is a big jump from $.25 per spin.

Multiple coins per payline almost seems like a clever trick to get you to wager more per spin. It has also contributed to a change in how slots players play. For one thing, it is what gave rise to more and more slots players looking for penny and nickel games—even in land-based casinos.

This has actually contributed to taking some of the seriousness out of slots play. Players no longer expect to make a lot of money off of the slots games. While they still play in hopes of winning a jackpot, they no longer expect smaller payouts of decent size.

In fact, wagering multiple coins per payline on a slots game with a lot of paylines can actually help you to run through you bankroll faster. If you are wagering $2.50 per line and only winning $0.75 or so back, you will run out of money a lot faster.

The best thing that you can do is play the slots for enjoyment rather than expecting a serious payout from a slots game. And with the mentality of only playing for enjoyment it becomes easier to play with only one coin wagered per line, returning you to that $0.25 spin but still allowing you to have all the paylines active.

USA May Legalize Online Gambling

February 26th, 2010

Slots players may be able to play their favorite online slots games legally in the U.S.

Recently the Bipartisan Tax Fairness and Simplification Act of 2010 made it the US Congress. Of course it is just sitting there. But the fact that it was co-authored by a Republican and a Democrat can give us hope.

One of the points is making sure everyone knows that this bill was written by members of both parties. Michael Waxman, a member of the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, said, “With so much media focus on the differences between Democrats and Republicans in Congress, this bipartisan initiative highlights the growing support on both ends of Capitol Hill for replacing the failed prohibition on Internet gambling with a system to regulate the industry, protect consumers and generate billions in new revenue.”

I like that part about the failed prohibition. I believe that there is a phrase about learning from one’s mistakes. And this country should have learned that prohibiting something only makes people more likely to do it. Think 1920’s. Think of the prohibition on alcohol.

Most of this bipartisan bill is proposing simplifying tax codes and tax brackets. However it does contain that joyful tidbit of taxing online gambling.

That portion of the bill contains this statement: “Internet gambling in the United States should be controlled by a strict Federal licensing and regulatory framework to protect underage and otherwise vulnerable individuals, to ensure the games are fair, to address the concerns of law enforcement and to enforce any limitations on the activity establishes by the States and Indian tribes.”

I think that perhaps those in Congress are seeing more and more states either expanding their gambling offerings or legalizing some forms of online gambling within their own states. Due to loopholes in the ‘failed prohibition’ states can control what forms of gambling are legal within their borders. And that loophole only shows just how failed the current prohibition is.

It is also a good sign that the government is looking to taxing and regulating Internet gambling as a source of revenue.

But for now we must sit back and wait to see how the bipartisan bill fairs.

The Riches of the Old Russian Court

February 25th, 2010

The reign of the tsars in Russian before their revolution were known for their opulence. Palaces were expressions of the royal family’s taste and affluence.

Decadent is a good word to describe the final years of the Imperial family. As an example, Faberge Eggs were best known by the ones made in during the reign of Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia. And that is where this online slots game takes place.

From the Microgaming line-up, Days of the Tsar is themed with the opulence associated with the last Imperial family of Russia. The graphics in this five reel, twenty five payline game are highly detailed—and remarkable accurate. The images of Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, the last Tsar and Tsarina of Russia, look very much like the portraits that have survived the Russian Revolution. The animation is smooth, and, in the case of the Faberge Egg symbol, very well executed.

Other symbols in this online slots game include the Imperial Seal, a Statue of Nicholas and the Kremlin—although the royal family were based in St. Petersburg not Moscow where the Kremlin actually stands. Naturally the remaining symbols are the usual A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 which are gilded to match the game.

Nicholas II is the Wild in this online slots game. He will substitute all symbols other than the Faberge Egg. He also offers the largest payout: 10,000 coins if you can land five of him on a payline.

The Faberge Egg is the Scatter and the key to triggering the free spins feature. If three or more Faberge Eggs are found anywhere on the reels at once fourteen free spins will become active, in which all winnings are doubled. But for every Faberge Egg that is landed during the free spins, another free spin is activated. I triggered the free spins twice will playing and wound up with 27 free spins the first time and 26 the second.

Overall this is not a bad online slots game to play. When I was playing I was only wagering $0.01 and 1 coin per payline for a total bet of $0.25 per spin. In total I wagered $43.25 and won $36.82, which is not too bad overall in terms of a slots game. Days of the Tsar is recommended for enjoyable yet non-serious play.

Microgaming to Release Three New Slots Games

February 25th, 2010

Microgaming is looking to release another round of online slots games to online casinos that are powered by the Microgaming software. Adventure, humor and traditional abound!

The first of the three new slots games is called Age of Discovery. This is to be a five reel with twenty five paylines and an old world theme. Slots players will navigate oceans and explore the as-yet uncharted world using maps and the starts above. The graphics are to be rich with detail and contain a more beautiful look rather than a cartoony look.

Also to be released is a rather humorous online slots game that is to be called Dogfather. Guess what this one is about.

Yes, it will have a comic mafia theme, but rather than people it will feature dogs. Not all the details have been released about this one, other than that it will feature a bonus game. Microgaming must have been in a funny mood when they came up with this one. Similar to how the Mafia has its various territories, Dogfather will feature a bonus game called Mark Your Territory. Indeed, a rather humorous spin on the Mafia concept of taking territory.

While the first two new online slots follow along the lines of the popular format of modern day slots games, the last new slots game to be released by Microgaming has a more traditional approach.

Thor Blimey! is to follow the more classical idea of what a slots game is. While the number of reels has not been released yet, it stands to reason that it is highly possible that this might be a three reel. Thor Blimey! is to feature the traditional fruit imagery of classic slot machines. It is also to have classic actions such as nudge and hold.

Keep checking your favorite Microgaming online casinos for these new releases, which are sure to delight. Or at least make you crack a smile at the idea of the Mark Your Territory bonus game in Dogfather.

Vegas Technology to Release 4 New Games

February 24th, 2010

Vegas Technology is going to be rolling out four new games to online casinos with their software. All four games are to feature the graphics that are the hallmark of Vegas Technology’s innovation.

Vampire Vixen is to be a five reel slots game with twenty five paylines. This online slots game is to bring the horror movie right to players. While it will have the standard playing card symbols, other symbols include a Haunted House, a Broken Mirror, Blood, a Scared Man and the Vampire Vixen herself. The maximum payout to be offered here is 4,000 coins. Bonus features include 10 free spins, a 2x multiplier and a Scatter.

The second came is called City of Gold. And with a maximum payout of 6,000 coins players certainly have the possibility to be rolling in their own gold. Again, the standard card symbols will be found here but to keep the eye interested there is Treasure, a Necklace and a Temple among other symbols. City of Gold takes the winning further by giving players the chance to win 15 free spins or a 3x multiplier. And there is a Scatter to look forward to as well.

To join Vampire Vixen and City of Gold will be Shaaark! online slots. Yes, it does have three A’s in it. Other than the extra A’s this five reel, twenty five payline online slots game has a Scatter, a Wild, a multiplier and ten free spins to be won. This seems to be a mildly humorous rendition of ‘Jaws’ with it panicked Swimmer, Shark’s Fin and Warning Signs.

The last of Vegas Technology’s newest games is called Fire Hawk. This is a five reel, twenty five paylines with a Native American theme. Players will be playing with Drums, Pipes, a Squaw and a Chief amongst other icons of Native American culture. This online slots game though offers players the most in terms of both payout and bonus features. There is a 6,000 coin maximum payout. As for the bonus features, players can win with Scatters, Wilds, 2x, 5x or 10x multipliers and twenty free spins.

Fans of Vegas Technology should keep their eyes open for these four online slots games at their favorite online casino. It seems that Vegas Technology never rests in their work of creating graphically appealing online slots games with the bonus features that slots players love.

The Prize in the African Savannah

February 24th, 2010

Vegas Technology takes slots players to the African savannah in their online slots game Safari Hunt.

No animals are harmed in this slots game.

Full of bright colors and lively animals, this is a slots game that is worth taking for a spin. This is a five reel bonus slots game with twenty paylines. There is plenty of action to be seen in the animation when winning combinations are formed a ferocious Jaguar to a Giraffe that will make a funny face at you, winning combinations provide a good sense of enjoyment.

Like any good five reel there is a bonus round to be had in this online slots game. It is triggered by landing at least three of the bonus Camera and Binoculars symbol.

In the Safari Hunt bonus game you are invited to choose two hiding spots. Each hiding spot will reveal one of the animals found on a safari. A random amount of money is given with each animal. The total of the two animals is your bonus amount.

But the question remains of whether the bonus amount is really a bonus. When I triggered the bonus round on a spin betting $.01 per line ($0.20 per spin), I only won $0.20.

Also to be on the hunt for is the Ranger. No, there is not actual hunting of humans in Safari Hunt. It is just that he is the Scatter symbol and the he is the key to the free spins. Finding at least three Rangers will trigger fifteen free spins with doubled winnings. These free spins can also be re-triggered.

And finally the Jeep is the Wild symbol, substituting for all symbols other than the Camera and Binoculars and the Ranger. But the jackpot can also come from five Jeeps which will earn the winner 10,000 coins.

A downside to this online slots game is that the buttons blend in with the background. But this can be attributed to the design looking like a bunch of rocks stacked on top of one another. They are visible but do not stand out like they do in other games. Just be mindful when you are clicking buttons down there.

Other than a questionable bonus round this is an enjoyable online slots game to play. It can be spotted at any Vegas Technology powered online casino, and is worth a few spins—if for nothing more than seeing what the animals do.

March Madness is at Super Slots

February 23rd, 2010

Forget basketball. Super Slots is giving those of us who love slots our very own March Madness in the form of a month-long slots tournament. They have, of course, named this tournament March Madness. And it begins on March 1st.

One of the highlights of this online slots tournament is that the entry fee is not all that high. It is only $10 to play in a month-long tournament with a prize pool of $300,000; players begin with $50 to play with. Now compare that with a tournament that you pay $15 to enter for a weekend of play with a prize pool of only $50,000.

The $10 entry fee for the March Madness tournament does not really seem that bad in comparison.

Slots players in the tournament have unlimited chances to rebuy in should they run through their $50. Another $10 will get them another $50 to continue with in the tournament.

The winning ranking will be determined by each player’s final balance. The highest is of course the winner, with second, third and so on determined by the next highest balance. Here is the breakdown of the prize money:

1st place: $150,000 to 1 player
2nd place: $10,000 to 4 players
3rd place: $2,500 to 5 players
4th place: $1,000 to 10 players
5th place: $500 to 30 players
6th place: $100 to 50 players
7th place: $50 to 400 players
8th place: $10 to 500 players
9th place: $5 to 8,500 players

Super Slots has chosen Magic Monkey for this tournament’s game of play. This is a five reel from the Vegas Technology arsenal. This is a brightly colored slots game with a Baby Dragon, Crystal Ball, Magic Potion, Spell Book, and of course Bananas. The Magic Monkey is the Wild, and three of more Bananas will trigger twenty free spins.

With this being a month-long tournament, stop by Super Slots and enroll. You just might be one of those players who wins a chunk of that $300,000.

The Secrets of Tomb Raider Slots

February 22nd, 2010

I have avoided writing about the Tomb Raider online slots game for the simple reason that Lara Croft is highly popular. And I tend to shy away from that which is highly popular. I did not pick up a Harry Potter book until five years after the first was published.

But I cannot avoid Tomb Raider. There is no denying that this is a highly popular slots game from the Microgaming line-up. What makes it popular—other than featuring Lara Croft—is its many ways to win. And that, as we all know, is what make a slots game ‘hot.’ And ‘hot’ Tomb Raider is.

In addition to the Wild, which is the Lara Croft symbol in which you see only her face (there are five symbols of her total), there are four other bonus games for players to trigger here.

The first is the Free Spin with Rolling Reels. This is triggered by landing at least three of what I refer to as the Green Artifact. Five free spins are awarded, but these are not ordinary free spins. On these particular free spins all symbols that are a part of a winning combination will dissolve, causing the symbols above to roll down, hopefully this creates more winning combinations. And each time a consecutive win is made (meaning that when a combination dissolves to create another combination) the multiplier will increase up to 5x.

Tomb Raider also features a Super Mode. This is a randomly triggered feature with five free spins. The Super Mode has randomly place multiple Wilds that are in place throughout all five spins.

There is the bonus game called Global Adventure. When a player lands a Passport in the middle of a reel it is held until all five reels have the Passport in the middle. Global Adventure is then triggered. Players will then get to choose a place to begin looking for the fragments of the Hidden Sword; there are five fragments.

Inside the Global Adventure Bonus is a Hidden Treasure Bonus. Players can win all wins for that chosen location, a 2x multiplier, a bonus value or entry into the Shootout Bonus.

In the Shootout Bonus players are shown a collection of discs. Players ‘shoot’ the discs, which are hiding winning values. After all but the last disc is shot, the player then wins the amount hidden behind the remaining disc.

A bit overwhelming right? But with plenty of ways to win it is no wonder how this online slots game came to be so popular. And, thankfully, it is the bonus features that have made this slots game ‘hot’ rather than just Lara Croft herself. An online slots game’s popularity should come from the game itself rather than just its theme. And Tomb Raider does deliver that.

RTG’s Newest Will Have You Looking for Triton’s Treasures

February 22nd, 2010

RealTime Gaming is at it again. Their latest offering takes online slots players below the ocean into the mythical realm of Triton, King of the Seas.

Triton’s Treasure is a five reel slots game joining the line-up at RTG online casinos. Featuring twenty five paylines, players can activate them by placing wagers ranging from $.0.01 up to $5.00.

As par the course for RTG online slots games, Triton’s Treasure does not disappoint with its graphics. All symbols have a rich quality to them and are highly detailed. The animation on the spins is smooth as well. There is nothing lacking graphics-wise from this slots game.

True to being under the waves, the choice of symbols reflects this. Players will be playing with octopi, crabs, fish and other sea life. But there are also treasures from above that have fallen to the ocean floor: statues and urns along with treasure chest.

The Mermaid symbol is the Scatter. She will payout no matter where she lands on the reels. Three of more of her will trigger five free spins. These spins have a 1x multiplier on them. But players have bonus picks based on the number of Mermaids that trigger the free spins; five more free spins can be added or the multiplier increased by 2x. If slots players can land at least three more Mermaids, five more free spins can be won.

But it is Triton himself that rules this game. He is the Wild symbol and appears on the second, third and fourth reels. And when he does appear he expands to cover all three rows, raising his fist in a gesture of power—this is his kingdom after all, and his treasure you are winning.

While there is no bonus game to be found under the ocean, there are two jackpots that can each be triggered randomly. Like all other recently released RTG online slots games, Triton’s Treasure features a Major and Minor Jackpot. The amounts of both jackpots are displayed on the playing screen for players to keep an eye on.

This graphics-rich and treasure filled online slots game can be found at any RealTime Gaming online casino.

Cashing in on Cashapillar

February 18th, 2010

Ready for something different?

Try 100 paylines.

I am not joking. Cashapillar is a fairly recent five reel Microgaming creation. And it does offer 100 paylines.

The theme of this online slots game is the very rich caterpillar’s 100th birthday. And you and all of his bug friends have been invited.

The wager increments are small in this game, only $0.01 up to $0.05, but that’s not too bad when you remember that is the price per line; this makes your bet per spin, using only one coin, $1, $2 or $5. Low rollers will probably enjoy playing this at $1 a spin.

As should be any birthday party, this is a very brightly colored game. Not to the point that the colors make your eyes hurt, but you will not forget the party this online slots game centers around.

And speaking of symbols the ones you want to land are the Cashapillar Logo and the Birthday Cake.

The Cashapillar Logo acts as the Wild substituting for every symbol other than the Birthday Cake. But this is no ordinary Wild. The Logo will appear stacked on each reel, increasing your chances of creating winning combinations. Any winning combinations that the Logo helps to finish will have its winnings doubled.

As for the Birthday Cake, not only will it payout quite nicely—at one coin per line, just two Birthday Cakes will payout 200 coins—it will trigger fifteen free spins with triple winnings. And just so you know, you can win up to six million coins if you are betting $0.05 and ten coins per line. Also worth noting is that if you find the Logo substituting on a Free Spin you have the chance of winning up to 6x the amount won on winning combinations the Wild is in.

I think the Birthday Cake is my favorite symbol in this online slots game. And who does not like birthday cake? You will love it in this game.

Players do have quite the chance of winning big in this online slots game from Microgaming. The only hesitation that I have is that, with 100 paylines, you would think that it would be easier to land combinations on a payline. But then it is gambling, and in my time playing it I did see a fair amount of Birthday Cake.
