I Spy -the TV Show
I Spy was a groundbreaking show in its day. In a run from 1965 to 1968, I Spy was the first television program with an African-American lead actor. Bill Cosby played the ostensible tennis instructor for Robert Culp, who was a "tennis bum". Apparently, in those days, a tennis bum is an amateur who travelled the world playing tennis games against rich patrons.
The tennis act was a simply cover for Cosby's and Culp's international espionage team. They were sent to take out the villains, chase other spies and make time with exotic women.
