Slot Myths: Payout Percentages

December 20th, 2010

I am not going to say that payout percentages for slots games do not exist. They are not the Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy—although I am sure there are slots games with those themes out there somewhere. Payout percentages very much do exist.

However, players have a misconception of what they are for.

Well, a half misconception.

Players understand that a slots game with a payout percentage of 96% means that it pays out 96% of the money it brings in through wagers. That part is correct. The break down happens in the next part.

See a good many misinformed players believe that the payout percentage is how much they can expect back from the slots game. In other words that a player can expect to receive 96% of their wagers back.

That is the incorrect part.

Payout percentages are about the total amount that a slots game payouts from the total amount of wagers it takes in. So say a slots game takes in $100,000 in wagers from all of its players, if it has a payout percentage of 96%, it means that this particular slots game will make $96,000 in payouts in total.

That $96,000 will not go to one player. It will be dispersed in little and big payouts so that if you were to add up all of the payouts, big and small, that all the players received in that month it would total $96,000.

So now that we have learned that payout percentages are not for determining who much you can expect from a slots game—there is no way to tell how much a slots game is going to pay you—I will discuss what you can use payout percentages for this afternoon.

Why I am Thankful for Slots

November 24th, 2010

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and it is time to give thanks to the good things in our lives. So here is to being thankful to slots.

One of the things that I am thankful for slots for is the graphics and the themes that make each slots game its own little entity. It is the graphics and themes that make slots games as entertaining as they are. I cannot imagine playing a random number type of outcome game of chance without the lights and colors and sounds.

I am also thankful for how easy it is to play slots games. I do not have to worry about remembering any rules. All you need to do to play a slots game is set your wager and press Spin. That is all there is to it. This makes it easy to come home from work and spin the reels while watching a TV show or the like.

Another thing that I am thankful for is that slots do not have any strategy to worry about learning or practicing. They are played the same way every time. And with no way to impact the outcome of a spin, slots strategy is just unnecessary. So one less thing to have to worry about.

Then there is the ability to sit down and start playing a slots game for the first time without having to wonder if I was doing it right or wrong. Slots are a good game to wade into the world of casino games with.

And then there is the feeling of winning. It almost comes as a surprise and you cannot quite believe it when it happens. But there it is—the feeling of winning.

I am thankful for the entertainment and east that slots games offer. It is what makes them my favorite casino game.

Microgaming’s Ironic Online Slots Game

November 8th, 2010

While perusing a Microgaming online casino, I happened across what I would have to say is the world’s most ironic online slots game.

Scrooge is a five reel online slots game with fifty paylines. The irony of this online slots game is that Scrooge is too miserly of a character to ever play slots himself. On other hand, I could see him running his own online casino.

Joining the old miser himself on the reels are Tiny Tim and Jacob Marley along with all of the Ghosts of Christmas: Past, Present and Future. The graphics are fantastic which is par the course for a Microgaming online slots game.

And like all Microgaming online slots game, this one does offer bonus features.

The Logo, representing Scrooge, is the Wild, transforming into any of the symbols other than the Scatter. But in a rare show of generosity, he will double the winnings of any combination that the Logo completes.

Remember that infamous door knocker on Scrooge’s front door? Well, it is here too and plays the part of the Scatter. Land three or more and you will be transported to the table where Christmas Dinner is to be served.

And you are doing the serving. To earn your bonus game prize you must feed Scrooge and his guests, Jacob Marley, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.

Finally there are the free spins. You could add to your free spins when you click on the winning symbol. Or you could use that click to mark a day off of your Christmas calendar. Once you hit Christmas there is another bonus prize waiting for you under the tree.

While it may not quite be the holiday season yet (almost!), there is nothing wrong with getting started early. And this is the Christmas online slots game of choice from Microgaming, what with all its bonus features. So catch Scrooge while he is in a generous mood.

Clocks in Slots Games

October 25th, 2010

Pst! I heard a slots tip, more like a slots myth really, that slot machines and slots games have clocks on them; and that these clocks are the key to triggering the jackpot. When the clock on a slots game reaches a certain time, the jackpot is paid out to someone. All you have to do is know what that time is and be spinning the reels of that slots game to snag the jackpot.

Okay, the truth?

The truth is that, yes, both slot machines and online slots games have clocks in them.

But the truth also includes that those clocks have nothing to do with triggering a jackpot. They are clocks, not timers.

Now if there was some dispute about whether or not you had hit a decent sized payout but the slots game did not pay out the winnings, would you like for there to be something in the slots game that records such things?

You would? Well, that is what that clock is for.

The purpose of a clock in a slot machine or in an online slots game is to put a time stamp on what player won what and when. Casino staff can check these time stamps to verify if you have won what you say you have won should the slots game not make the payout.

Time stamps on each and every winning and on other actions also help staff who perform maintenance on the slots game see if the slot machine or slots game is functioning properly and paying out within its payout percentage. If the timestamps reveal that the machine is not paying out as it should, they then have to repair it.

So the myth is half right. There are clocks inside slots games, but those clocks do not indicate or set off the jackpot of a slots game.

Tiger’s Eye Slots

October 5th, 2010

It is a new month and Microgaming is already off to a new start with their newest online slots game, Tiger’s Eye.

Tiger’s Eye is a five reel, forty payline online slots game that takes players into an exotic jungle in search of their slots treasure. The symbols are rich in color and detail with the quality that Microgaming is known for.

On the reels players will find a Paw Print, a Monkey, a Peacock, a Fawn and a Tiger of course. They are accompanied by rich amber colored 10s, Js, Qs, Ks and As.

The Tiger is the highest paying regular playing symbol, awarding 800 coins for landing five of this might hunter. But the Logo, which is also the Wild, will payout 1,000 coins for landing five it.

Following what seems to be an increasingly popular trend, Microgaming has outfitted this new gem of a slots game with a Stacked Wild, which is the Logo. Naturally those Stacked Wilds are a big help to increasing winnings as they will substitute for all symbols except for the Scatter.

The Scatter in this new online slots game is the Golden Tiger Statue. Like a good Scatter, only two are needed to receive a Scatter payout. The Scatter payouts start as a 1x multiplier for two and go up to 200x for five of them.

But three Golden Tiger Statues will not only award a Scatter payout, they will also trigger the free spins feature, which is the crowning jewel of this online slots game.

Players begin the free spins feature with ten free spins. The first spin has a 1x multiplier, the second spin has a 2x multiplier on it, the third has a 3x multiplier, and this increase in multipliers continues until players get to the tenth spin which has a 10x multiplier.

Going along with the Stacking Wild and this new style on free spins gives Tiger’s Eye a nice edge as a new online slots game. Microgaming has done well with its trip into the exotic jungle.

Paradise in a Slots Game

September 28th, 2010

Find your own little piece of paradise in another new online slots game from Vegas Technology.

This new five reel, twenty five payline online slots game is called Paradise Riches and features an exotic summery beach theme. This comes across in the Dolphins, Coconuts, Island Drinks and other tropically oriented symbols.

While it does not carry all of the bonus features that Vegas Technology’s other new online slots game, Agent Cash, does Paradise Riches does not come to players empty handed.

There is only one Wild in Paradise Riches, but it is a Wild that pays. When substituting for any symbol other than the Scatter, there is a 3x multiplier on any winning combination that the Hula Girl helps to complete.

On top of the 3x multiplier, the Hula Girl will also payout a 10,000 coin jackpot for landing five of her on the reels.

The Tropical Flower is the Scatter in Paradise Riches. Players need only land a minimum of two to be awarded a Scatter payout.

But three or more Tropical Flowers will trigger the free spins feature. Twelve free spins are awarded and each free spins has a multiplier of 3x on it. As another little bonus, players can retrigger the free spins as long as all twenty five paylines are active.

The cost of a spin on Paradise Riches starts at $0.25 ($0.01 per payline) and goes up as high as $125 ($5 per payline) per spin. This range makes this a good online slots game for a high roller or basic player or someone who is just looking for some relaxing slots play in paradise.

Vegas Technology has done a good job in creating a new online slots game to gives off a relaxing feeling while at the same time giving players a good game.

High Limit Room Slots or Not?

September 28th, 2010

Almost any brick and mortar casino has a high limit room. Players of slot machines know that there are slot machines in that high limit room. These machines usually are $5 per spin if not more. But there are also $5 slot machines on the regular casino floor as well.

This leads players to wondering if there is a difference between the two slot machines. Some believe that the $5 slot machines in the high limit room have a better payout percentage, a higher one than those on the regular casino floor.

This is one of those slots myths.

While I cannot say for sure 100%, it is unlikely that there is going to be a significant difference between the $5 slot machines in the high limit room and the $5 machines on the regular casino floor.

The reason for this is that the people in casinos that manage the slot machines, called slot directors, are the ones who order the casino’s slot machines. When they order them they tend to order slot machines with the nearly the same payout percentage as the other slot machines in that denomination.

This means that when a slot director orders $5 slot machines, in this instance, he or she will order them all with nearly the same payout percentage regardless if the slot machine’s final destination is the high limit room or the regular casino floor.

I believe this slots myth is something that is perpetuated by the casinos, perhaps not directly, but they certainly do not mind players being lured into the high limit rooms and being tempted to play other high limit casino games.

It is best to keep in mind as a bit of slots strategy that there is no significant difference between the payout percentages of the slot machines on the floor versus those in the high limit rooms.

New Slots with a New Casino

September 27th, 2010

Last week the ThoughtLink Ltd launched a new online casino. This new online casino of theirs is powered by Rival Gaming, maker of the ever popular iSlots. The name of this new online casino? It is Spartan Slots Casino.

Despite the spare name of this new online casino, it is being launched with an out pouring of money. This includes a $5,000 Welcome Bonus Package made up of a 100% deposit match bonus worth up to $1,000, a second deposit match bonus of 2005 worth up to $400, and topping it off are four reload deposit match bonuses of 150% making up the remaining $3,600.

But the real push of this new online casino is the special four new online slots games that Rival Gaming made especially for the Spartan Slots Casino. These four new slots games are called: Diamonds Down Under, Best of Luck, Aussie Rules and, to go along with the new online casino’s name, Spartan Warrior.

And like the majority of online casinos in the industry, Spartan Slots is also offering progressive online slots games with progressive jackpots. No word yet on whether these new progressive jackpots are linked to any of Spartan’s sister casinos or not as most online casinos are prone to do.

ThoughtLink Ltd. is also the owner of other online casinos, such as Box 24. Their online casinos are like flip flops, easy to get into and fun to use. Between their welcome bonuses and their exclusive online slots games this new online casino will be a nice addition to the ThoughtLink Ltd. family.

September 24th, 2010

What is the best way for an online slots player to keep themselves entertained in the early hours of the morning?

An online slots tournament that is especially for all of those late night people!

And Go Casino has just the online slots tournament series to fill that need. They host their Red Eye Pot Percentage online slots tournament every night, or morning depending on how you view time, of the week. That means that there is always some late night online slots action out there for night owl slots players.

It is also offers a chance to play and even win an online slots tournament that most players will not play in simply because they are asleep. True, less participation means less in the Pot to win, but it also increases a player’s chances of winning the Pot.

Each Red Eye Pot Percentage online slots tournament begins at 12:30 am and runs through 8:30 am every day. So there is no single night, or morning, that leaves an online slots player without a late night thrill.

This month seven online slots games created by the ever popular Vegas Technology have been selected to be used in this online slots tournament series, one for each night of the week:

Monday: Winter Wonderland
Tuesday: Parrot Party
Wednesday: Tiki Lounge
Thursday: Northern Lights
Friday: Butterflies

And the weekend night, or morning, offerings are:

Saturday: Fire Hawk
Sunday: Eastern Dragon

Players who are interested in the Red Eye Pot Percentage online slots tournament series only need to register at Go Casino and pay the $2.99 entry fee to receive their 250 tournament credits; rebuys are $2.99.

Mermaid’s Quest Online Slots Review

September 24th, 2010

Under the sea themes are quite common for online slots games. It seems that every software manufacturer of online casino games has created at least one—yes, there are some software providers who have created more than one.

Today we are going to take a look at the under the sea themed offering from Vegas Technology: Mermaid’s Quest.

Vegas Technology is one of the newer software providers in the online casino game industry. But just because they are new does not mean they are not good. In 2005 they won Top New Casino Software in a reader’s poll in Gambling Online Magazine.

So just because they are a newer software provider does not mean they are not capable of producing quality online slots games.

In fact, Mermaid’s Quest is one of their highest rated online slots games. This is because, with only eight paylines, it is an easy to understand game with a profitable bonus game. And we all know how much online slots players like their bonus games.

Naturally all of the graphics and symbols are of creatures that live under the sea and include the Mermaid, King Neptune and a Treasure Chest.

That bonus game I mentioned is triggered by landing at least three of the Mermaids. Players are then taken over to a second screen pick-your-prize bonus game for what is considered a strong bonus game when compared to how simple the regular play is.

There are also free spins in this online slots game. These ten free spins with a 2x multiplier are triggered when three King Neptunes are landed.

Naturally there is a wild in Mermaid’s Quest as well: the Treasure Chest. While it does not have a multiplier on it, it does offer a rather large 10,000 jackpot for landing five of them on an active payline.

Mermaid’s Quest is a fine online slots game offering from Vegas Technology, and it continues to be one of that software provider’s highest rated online slots game.
