I Spy a Slots Game

June 9th, 2010

While Rival Gaming is known for their iSlots, I have to say that their regular bonus online slots games are not too shabby at all.

Take a look at Spy Game, a five reel online slots game with fifteen paylines.

This online slots game is themed with a spy on a mission to neutralize a missile factory that is building dangerous missiles. If James Bond were on the cartoony side this would be the online slots game that he would star in.

Players are given a story line to help the Spy with his mission. On the reels are a Camera, a briefcase, a Getaway Car, a Missile, a Woman and of course the Spy. The Files are the Wild and the Gun is the Scatter, which can trigger 10 free spins in which the Wild has a 4x multiplier.

There are three segments of this story line to play through.

The first segment has you spinning reels until you trigger the free spins. During the free spins all three bomb components must be landed on the reels at some point. Once all three have been landed the bomb is assembled and you are taken away to a bonus game. In the bonus game you choose which building of the missile facility to bomb. Each building is worth a bonus amount; the building you choose will be your prize. Segment 1: accomplished.

Then you are spinning the reels again until you trigger more free spins. This time three pieces of a sniper rifle must be landed at some point. Once you have all three pieces of the rifle, you are taken to a bonus game in which you shoot the enemy soldiers in order to not be shot yourself. The more soldiers you shoot before they shoot back will determine your bonus amount. Segment 2: accomplished.

Once again you find yourself on the reels, working to trigger more free spins. This time you must land a Grappling Hook, a Car and a Jet in order to trigger the third bonus game. Once you have those you can make your getaway…as soon as you disarm the enemy’s bomb that is in your way. Choosing one of four wires will allow you to get away and receive another bonus prize. Mission: accomplished.

I am never disappointed with Rival. The free spins are triggerable and the bonus features more than make up for the spins used to trigger the free spins and bonus game. Not only that, for entertainment value, you can actually play through the whole storyline without it taking days on end—one of the downsides to the iSlots. I have to say I enjoyed my time playing Spy Game and the money I won.

iSlots Rock!

May 25th, 2010

How many online slots players out there like video games like Guitar Hero? If you are one of them then I have got an online slots game for you. Actually it is an iSlot but, trust me, you will like this iSlot.

Naturally because this is an iSlot it comes to slots players from Rival Gaming. The slots game? It is called Rock On, and it is a five reel interactive online slots game with twenty paylines.

The name says it all though. This is an online slots game that is meant to play hard. What with familiar faces like Ringo, Hendrix, Manson and symbols like Guitars, Drums and Hand Signs, this online slots game is meant to get your energy up.

To help players on their way to money and rock star glory are a Scatter, an expanding Wild and a regular Wild.

The Drums are the Scatter. They not only give online slots players a Scatter payout but they also trigger five free spins with a 3x multiplier when at least three Drums are landed. And while that sounds nice, this makes these free spins even hotter: landing a drum on each of the five spins will award an extra payout.

The Green Guitar will act as your expanding Wild. It will cover its entire reel to help create more winning combinations.

The Red Guitar is the regular Wild, substituting for all symbols except for the Expanding Wild, Scatter and Bonus Symbol.

And speaking of the Bonus Symbol, here comes the King. Yes, Elvis is the Bonus Symbol. Landing three of the King will trigger the interactive bonus round…

How are your guitar skills by the way? Because you are going to need them in this bonus game.

This iSlot’s bonus game is set up similar to Guitar Hero. There is a seven song set list which online slots players will play through, one song for each bonus round. This song list includes ‘Gold Mine,’ ‘Egyptian Queen’ and ‘Garden of Secrets’ along with four more. Players are presented with the frets of a guitar and, like in Guitar Hero, must click the pick on the notes as they slide over the frets. The more notes hit the more coins won.

With all the lights and sounds—not to mention that rock star interactive bonus game—this is one iSlot that is not to be missed! Rock On turns the ordinary online slots game into your very own rock concert inside your computer.

Soaps and Slots—Part One

May 21st, 2010

Those who love soap operas will love the iSlot As the Reels Turn. This five reel, fifteen payline online slots game from Rival follows several characters in the drama of the El Paradiso Casino.

Because this is an iSlot the story unfolds only when you make it. So pull up a chair and your computer and get ready to follow Matt G, Chrissy and the Don as the reels turn.

Online slots players will begin with Matt G lamenting that he cannot afford a friend in the world and leaving something confidential in his safe at the El Paradiso.

To help online slots players uncover the next scene they have four Scatters to work with. One triggers free spins, two trigger bonus games, and the last one moves the online slots player to the next scene.

Three or more Ivan Scatters will trigger ten free spins with a 3x multiplier.

Three or more of the Tommy symbols or the Bonus symbols will trigger the Tommy Wong bonus game and the bonus game respectively.

In the Tommy Wong bonus game you help Tommy choose what act he is going to perform that night. The more the audience loves his act, the more you win. And in the bonus game you help Matt G find counterfeit coins. The more authentic ones you find, the more money you win.

Then three or more Advance Scatters will advance you to the next scene in this iSlot. When an online slots player triggers the Advance they are treated to a video scene to watch the next part of the As the Reels Turn soap opera along with a bonus game.

The second scene has online slots players in on the plot to help uncover who is slipping the counterfeit chips into Matt G’s casino.

As there are several scenes to this iSlots, the total review of the game will have to be broken down in parts. Every now and then I will revisit As the Reels Turn and play up to the next scene. Check back to see what happens next and what the next scene holds for bonus games.

Looking For Newer Online Slots

May 21st, 2010

It seems there is no end to the online slots games that software developers can create. Every few months or so one of them is releasing a new set of online slots games. And while the themes, graphics and overall appearance change, the basis of the online slots game does not.

And while we online slots games players do enjoy our games, trying the new ones and replaying our favorites, there are times that we wish that there was something truly new in terms of online slots games. Something different.

Thankfully Rival Gaming came up with something new for online slots games that is really new and not just a new theme. Their latest type of online slots game is not about how many reels or how many paylines the game has, but the core of the game.

Rival has created the iSlot, which is short of Interactive Slot.

This new type of online slots game changes how players interact with their game. Whereas with slots games the players are merely along for the ride their money takes them on, the iSlots require more of the player.

For example, if you triggered a bonus game in a standard five reel, twenty five payline slots game you are most likely to be taken to a second screen, where you merely pick one of a handful options, your bonus prize is revealed, and then you are taken back to the first screen for more reel spinning.

But with the bonus games in an iSlot you are not merely a picking bystander. Players must interact with the slots game and how they play the bonus game will impact their bonus prize.

Take Heavyweight Gold for example. In that slots game’s bonus game you are controlling the boxer and must fight an opponent. How you well you beat him and how quickly have an impact on your prize; and if you lose, well, you get a prize but no nearly what you would have gotten if you had won. And you can lose in this game. You are controlling the boxer after all, telling him when to block and when to hit.

What iSlots give an online slots player is more interaction. And more interaction drives up the fun of the game. These are not slots games in which you sit back and watch the reels spin—with these you have to participate. And that active role is what is making iSlots the new direction of online slots games.

A Switch in Slots—Part II

May 5th, 2010

As I said in my last post I have gone back to Rival’s online slots game A Switch in Time to try to activate the bonus game to send me to the past so that I can give slots players a full review.

That and, because of how well designed this slots game is, I wanted to see what they had done for the past screen.

If, when the Scientist was sent there, the future was made up of an array of robotic beings and flying cars and space age buildings, what do you think the past screen would have? If you guessed dinosaurs you guessed right.

Yes, the past screen of A Switch in Time is made up of dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurus Rexes, Mastodons, Pterodactyls and Saber Tooth Tigers. There are also Stone Age type symbols, such as a Caveman, a Stone Wheel and Stone Weapons.

Like the other two playing screens, there is a Wild and free spins.

The Wild is the fire. When the multiplier of the Wild symbol is determined by the number of Wilds that are a part of the winning combination. But like the other two Wilds, if it is landed during a free spin, it will become an expanding Wild.

The Cave Woman is the Scatter in the past. Landing three of her will award ten free spins; four will result in twenty five free spins; and five will award fifty. All of the free spins have a 2x multiplier on them.

To leave the past, players must land at least three Time Machines to trigger the bonus game that will return you to the Scientist’s correct time.

While I partially expected the past screen to be made up of dinosaurs and other prehistoric things, I have to admit that I was a bit let down by that. When looking at the entire online slots game, the future and past screens seem like very cliché destinations for our Scientist. While there’s not as much room to work with the future screen, the past could have been more imaginable—such as the Renaissance or the Middle Ages perhaps.

Themes of the second and third screens aside, game play is like the other two screens. Regular game play can be on the low side, but the free spins and bonus game are both triggerable and they do pay quite nicely. I wound up with more money than I started with. But triggering the free spins and bonus game are necessary.

Between the reasonable game play and the game’s ability to hang on to your attention, this is an enjoyable online slots game that Rival Gaming has designed.

A Switch in Slots

May 5th, 2010

It is not often that an online slots game truly catches my attention, meaning that I will play it for more than an hour and not just because I need to trigger the bonus game in order to write my review. The last online slots game that really caught my eye was the Baby Boomer’s Cash Cruise by Rival Gaming.

So I should not be surprised that one of Rival’s online slots games has got my attention. The game this time is called A Switch in Time. It is a five reel with twenty paylines. It is themed around a scientist and engineer who has built his very own time machine in the Victorian era. In that it greatly resembles the 2002 film ‘The Time Machine.’ The scientist in the slots game even resembles Guy Pearce right down to his chin. H.G. Wells should be proud—his sci-fi novel from 1895 is still a strong concept.

The main game screen of this online slots game is filled with things from the Victorian era: Gas Lamps, Old Tool Box, Wine Decanters and Carriages to name a few. On this screen the Hourglass is the Wild with a 2x multiplier during regular play, and a 3x multiplier during free spins; it will also expand during free spins.

Speaking of free spins, the Scientist’s Lady is the Scatter trigger for the free spins. Three of her anywhere on the reels will award 12 free spins with a 3x multiplier; four of her will award 45 free spins with a 6x multiplier; and five of her will award 78 free spins with a 9x multiplier. More free spins can be triggered from within the free spins.

But this online slots game does not have just one playing screen. Landing three Time Machines will trigger the bonus game in which the slots player takes control of the time machine, pushing buttons. Players will either wind up in the past or the future along with a nice bonus amount. I was sent to the future with 1,140 coins as my prize.

The graphics in the future reflect the change in time period with Droids, Space Guns and Flying Cars. The Purple Ooze is the Wild and it functions like the Wild in the regular screen. The Lady Droid is the Scatter trigger for the free spins, which are awarded just like the ones triggered by the Scientist’s lady.

The only symbol that does not change is the Time Machine which, in the future, will trigger a bonus game that allows players to save the future from the cyborgs. Killing all of the cyborgs will award a bonus amount and then return the slots player to the Scientist’s own time.

I can only assume that the bonus game from the regular playing screen can also send players to the past. But I have yet to trigger that screen. And while the bonus features are triggerable and very rewarding, to the point that I have more money than what I started with, I was not able to play long enough to trigger the past screen.

And this is where this online slots game catches my attention—I want to keep playing not only because I am actually winning money, but because I want to see what the past screen looks like. Thankfully this online slots game pays too so it is possible to keep playing without feeling like you are losing money. Rival has made a good one. And I will be writing more once I finally get to the past.

World Cup Fun in a Slots Game

April 27th, 2010

Fans of soccer all over the world are gearing up for an exciting season for the World Cup. To take part in the excitement this year, Rival Gaming has released a new online slots game to their partner online casinos: Global Cup Soccer.

Global Cup Soccer is a in the design of a classic slots game: it only has three reels and one payline. Players can make one, two or three coin wagers on that one payline though. The maximum wager is $5, and if slots players make it a three coin wager it means that one spin is going to cost $15 maximum. Or they can play this as if it were a penny slots game wagering $0.01 and one coin.

With its classic slots game design, Global Cup Soccer features the classic one Bar, two Bar and three Bar symbols. But to do along with the soccer theme there are also Soccer Balls, a Bronze Trophy, a Silver Trophy, a Gold Trophy and a Referee. For easy reference while you are playing, the pay table appears on the left-hand side.

As for the payouts that are unique to Global Cup Soccer, the smallest payouts come with landing only one Soccer Ball—the award then is the equivalent of your wager. So for a1 coin wager the payout would be 1coin, 2 for a 2 coin wager and 3 for a 3 coin wager.

But landing three Soccer Balls is worth 200, 300 and 600 depending on how many coins you are wagering per spin.

Any combination of the Bronze, Silver or Gold Trophies will payout 10 for 1 coin, 20 for 2 coins and 30 for 3 coins.

Also regarding those Trophies, each one has its own payout for landing three of each one. Three Bronzes are worth 60, 120 and 180 coins. This applies to 1, 2 and 3 coin wagers respectively. Three Silvers are worth 80, 160 and 240. And finally landing three Golds are worth 100, 200 and 300.

A good many hate referees. They never make the calls you want them to. But in Global Cup Soccer, slots players will love the Referee. Landing three of him will payout 750 coins, 1,500 coins and 2,500 coins, again, depending on whether you are wagering one, two or three coins per spin.

As for game play, the reels have the novelty appeal of operating like the classic reels from decades ago despite the fact that this is an online slots game. The single Soccer Ball seems to come up a fair amount, which will help cover the cost of your last spin.

Landing any of the three Bars is also fairly common and will payout 5, 10 or 15 coins. This will help to keep your bankroll afloat as it pays out 5x proportionally to your wager.

Overall this is fun game. Fans of the World Cup are bound to enjoy this while waiting for the first game to begin in South Africa, and more so in between games.

Slots Game of Who Done It?

April 27th, 2010

If you were a fan of Clue as a child and a fan of slots games as an adult, there is a perfect slots game for you: Moonlight Mystery.

The entire theme of this online slots game from Rival Gaming centers around finding out who the killer is. Players have five reels, fifteen paylines and plenty of suspects to work with: the Professor, the Constable, the Doctor, the Inspector, the Butler, the Maid, Lady Dunnit and Colonel Dunnit.

Players will want to have their Magnifying Glasses handle, not only to help them solve the murder, but because it is the jackpot symbol. Landing five Magnifying Glasses will award 2,000 coins.

The Poison Bottle is the Wild symbol. It is a normal Wild during regular play, substituting for non-bonus symbols; its award amount is multiplied by the number of Wilds. But during this online slots game’s free spins it becomes an expanding Wild.

Also of help to online slots players who are doubling as detectives is the Lantern. It is the Scatter and will trigger ten free spins if three or more are landed.

But the Body, that is the symbol of note in this online slots game. Three or more Bodies will trigger the Who Dunnit bonus game.

In the Who Dunnit bonus game, slots players are taken to a second screen in which they have to help solve the murder. Presented with a selection of doors, players choose one and are then asked to choose a crime scene, a weapon, a culprit and a motive. Each reveals a bonus amount. The amounts are then added together and that is the award of the bonus game.

Game play can run a little slow sometimes, but overall this game will put you close to where you started money-wise if not a little above. Both the free spins and the bonus game are triggerable. While the bonus game is more fun to play, the free spins seem to be more rewarding: playing $0.15 per spin, I won $7.48 in one set of free spins.

Moonlight Mystery is a pretty good slots game to play. It is entertaining even if you are playing for fun, but you could play this one low to medium stakes as well.

Rival’s Newest Diamond

March 8th, 2010

Rival Gaming has announced that it will be releasing a new online slots game. However, it will not be going to all Rival powered online casinos, just the most popular.

Adventure and diamonds abound in this new online slots game from Rival called Diamonds Down Under. This new games is to be a five reel with fifteen paylines.

Rival is known for its touch on graphics and slots players will not be disappointed with this latest offering. Slots players will be taken to the Australian Outback for some diamond hunting and mining—but watch out for Crocodiles.

In hopes of drawing new players to the Rival powered online casinos, Rival has given this new slots game quite the line-up in terms of features.

Players can look forward to a paytable that is higher than normal for Rival. But then this is Diamonds Down Under—diamonds are associated with riches, and an online slots game that features a diamond theme should offer the paytable to go with.

Diamonds Down Under will also feature free spins, but not 10, 15, or even 20. Slots players can win up to 100 free spins each with a 3x multiplier. And these free spins can be retriggered as well. The potential to build up a good sixed payout just on free spins alone will draw slots players in.

Rival has also given its newest online slots game a Wild, and that Wild will be found on all five reels to further help players create winning combinations.

It sounds like there might be a bonus game for Diamonds Down Under but the details there are vague. There will be diamonds to be found, but they can only be found using maps and by mining in the best spots. This sounds like it will be a bonus game in which players are presented with a map to choose locations to ‘mine’ at; diamonds found would offer bonus prizes. This is how I interpret the alluding to diamonds being found using maps with a choice of where to dig.

But this online slots game is not going to be offered at all Rival powered online casinos. Check with your favorites to see if they will be offering it. If they are not one of the chosen by Rival, poke around at other Rival casinos and see who has it.

Around the World in How Many Spins? Part II

February 9th, 2010

So I have finally played my way to the Alaska slots in Baby Boomers Cash Cruise. This was after another two hundred spins, and a stint in the Travel Agency slots portion.

And I must say that while the graphics are very pleasing with some native images and lots of wild life, the bonus games and free spins were lacking when compared to the bonus games and free spins in the other two destinations.

Alaska offers players ten free spins when they land three of the Ship’s Wheel. But unlike the ten free spins in Greece, these do not have an expanded Wild through all the spins, although there is a 3x multiplier on any winnings you do make.

The bonus game in Alaska is Bingo. Yes, Bingo. And it is played exactly as any other Bingo game would be played. Once you get Bingo you will receive your bonus pay out. Although the game rules do not tell you how the amount is determined.

On the whole I think the bonus games found in Greece have the most winning potential.

But on the whole this is a rather entertaining online slots game and a credit to iSlots. You will actually want to play until you have seen all three destinations. And I feel that is a credit to the game. It is not an online slots game that will bore you inside of fifteen minutes. And, for the most part, the bonus games are pretty decent. The graphics and symbols are well-chosen to represent these countries, although they are probably a bit on the stereotypical side.

But it should entertain most online slots players and is a strong member of the Rival lineup. It is defiantly worth the time to play. And probably a less expensive way to get a glimpse of these countries. If only international travel were so easy!
