Online Slots, Strategy and Paylines

August 4th, 2010

The more and more online slots games I see being released, the more I see with an increased number of paylines.

When I first started writing about slots many of the new online slots only had twenty paylines.

Then within the last year or so I have seen the number increase to twenty five. And really that is not too big of an increase. If you are wagering $0.01 per payline, it makes a spin cost $0.25 instead of $0.20. So you get four spins per dollar instead of five.

But with the release of some of the new online slots games in July I noticed that several had forty paylines and there have been a couple with one hundred paylines so far this year. Again, at $0.01 per payline, that makes a spin cost $0.40 and $1 respectively.

This is where you online slots strategy comes in to play.

The point of strategy in the case of online slots is to keep you from losing money too quickly. Key points in online strategy are to do a little research and find the online slots game with the highest payout percentage. Also, stop spinning the reels as fast as you—this is not a race! Unless you are racing to lose your money.

So, online slots strategy for paylines. Obviously the more paylines a game has the more it costs per spin. Oh sure, you could choose not to play all of the paylines but that defeats the purpose of having all those paylines.

The best that you can do in terms of slots strategy and paylines is stick to the online slots games with twenty or twenty five paylines.

Such games still offer the features players like to see in online slots games (bonus games, free spins, wilds and scatters), but the number of paylines will not eat into your bankroll too quickly. And that is the point of online slots strategy—to save your bankroll so that you can keep on enjoying the game and maybe hit it big.

New Online Slots: Witches and Wizards

July 28th, 2010

This week saw the launch of a new online slots game at the online casino Bodog: Witches and Wizards.

Before anyone jumps to any conclusions there is no Hogwarts or Harry Potter or any kids for that matter in this new online slots game. This five reel, twenty five payline online slots game features a grown Witch and Wizard along with other magical symbols such as Spell Books and Bones.

And do not forget the traditional 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, although they are dressed up in full gothic glory for this online slots game.

Witches and Wizards offers players a Scatter and a Wild to increase their chances of winning.

The Staff is the Scatter; and the Cauldron is the Wild, substituting for all symbols except for the Staff and doubling any wins that the Cauldron helps to complete.

But the biggest magical attraction is the Magical Experiment bonus game, which is actually made up of free spins. Ten free spins are awarded when three or more Staves are landed. The thing that makes the free spins of this online slots game different from other free spins and transforms it into a bonus game is the magic spells that can be cast.

There are four magic spells, one of which can be cast on each free spin:

Wild Explosion: With this spell, a random symbol is chosen and becomes a Wild. In fact all of that symbol that shows up on the reels will become Wilds.

Wild Growth: This spell will cause any Wilds that are landed to turn into Expanded Wilds with a multiplier of 2x for any combination they complete.

Metamopha-Wild: Cast this spell and watch up to fifteen random symbols be turned into Wilds.

Win Multiplication: With the power of this spell all wins of the free spin it is cast on will be multiplied between 2 and 10.

This promises to be an exciting addition to the Bodog lineup. Or a magical one I should say.

New Online Slots Game: All Aboard

July 26th, 2010

Do you like trains?

If you like trains then the latest online slots game to roll out of Rival will be to your liking. The new online slots game bears the name All Aboard, and, yes, it is themed with trains. Very much themed with trains.

All Aboard is an online slots game with the standard five reels and twenty paylines. The wager range runs from $0.01 per payline up to $0.25, making this an online slots game that just about anyone can play.

To flesh out the train theme the reels are filled with Crossing Lights, Whistles, Steam Engines, Water Towers, Bells, Lanterns, See-Saw Cars, Cabooses, Nails and a Conductor. And do not forget the infamous Casey Jones. Although the symbol in the game does not match the childhood Halloween ghost story about Casey Jones—the symbol shows him alive and well.

So bonus features!

The new online slots game does offer plays three types of bonus features: an Expanding Wild, free spins and a bonus game.

The Steam Engine is the Expanding Wild, which only appears on reels one and two. If landed it will expand to cover the entire reel and will double the winnings of any combination is completes.

Landing at least three of that darling Casey Jones will award ten free spins with a 2x multiplier. Four Casey Joneses will award twenty free spins with a 3x multiplier; and five Casey Joneses are worth forty free spins with a 4x multiplier.

Landing three of the Bell will cause the bell to sound and the bonus game to begin.

In the bonus game of this new online slots game players watch nine boxcars barrel onto the screen—such reckless train driving might be the reason why Casey Jones was in a Halloween cartoon to begin with. Eight of those boxcars have prizes and one has nothing. Players then pick boxcars. They can win the prizes in all eight so long as they do not pick the empty one. As soon as the empty box car is chosen the bonus game ends.

Fans of trains will enjoy this new online slots game from Rival. Roll over to a Rival online casino to take it for a ride.

War of the Worlds Online Slots Game

July 22nd, 2010

Remember that movie with Tom Cruise with the really big machines that made terrible noises while moving on to destroy everyone and everything?

War of the Worlds is now in an online slots game form and it is making its way to the online casino Virgin Games courtesy of ash Gaming . As of today the new online slots game will now be available for play.

But do not look for Tom Cruise’s face on the reels. This online slots game of War of the Worlds is based on the musical version of the story, which was taken from Jeff Wayne’s original story.

Did you get that? Jeff Wayne’s story in its musical form. No Tom Cruise. Sorry, ladies.

The War of the Worlds online slots game is a little bit more than the ordinary online slots game. True, it does have the standard five reels. But it also has one hundred (100) paylines to play on, and each reel is stacked with four symbols rather than the regular three. But then we are talking some seriously tall robots here.

Like a good online slots game, the good people at Ash Gaming have given this one a bonus game too. In this bonus game players are set to the task of killing the great Machines. The more a slots player damages or kills, the greater the bonus game prize.

The Wilds in this online slots game also talk to each other. Well, they will react together when more than one shows up on the reels—and remember you have four symbols per each of the five reels, so there is plenty of room for Wilds. When the react the Wilds can fill a reel creating even more winning opportunities.

Warren Eloff, who is the Product Manager at Virgin Games, had this to say about the newest online slots game in their lineup:

“The War of the Worlds is such an iconic yet timeless title that we believe it will be an instant hit with our customers. WE have found in the past that well known titles pick up a very quick following, and I think the War of the Worlds slot will be no exception.”

Hitman Hitting Slots

July 15th, 2010

Virgin and Microgaming are at it again. Fans of the hit PC game Hitman will be pleased to know that their favorite contract killing game now comes in an online slots variation.

Created by Microgaming, Hitman is a five reel online slots game with fifteen paylines. Like any good game this one is a multi-level game for even more enjoyment.

Warren Eloff, who is Product Manager at the United Kingdom based Virgin Games, said, “Microgaming has come up with another fantastically entertaining and interactive slot based on a game that has been massively popular with PC gamers. We launched Tomb Raider last month, which has proved to be a huge success with our customers, and we think Hitman, with all its entertaining features, will also pack a hefty punch.”

About those entertaining features, there is the usual Wild and Scatter, but there are also three other bonus features for players to look forward to:

The Expanding Wild feature creates three reels of Expanding Wilds when triggered to help players land even more hits to increase their winnings.

Like the majority of Microgaming online slots games, Hitman offers the chance to trigger free spins: eighteen of them in fact that carry a 2 x multiplier on each free spin.

Finally the culmination of Hitman comes in the Contract Bonus. In this bonus game players choose their target and weapon. Players then sit back and the action of the bonus game plays out and their bankroll increases.

Every time it seems that Virgin cannot top itself it succeeds in doing so. While this online casino offers players games from WagerWorks, Cryptologic and other software developers, Microgaming games are their crowning offer considering that Microgaming has produced some of the top online slots games in the industry, including Thunderstruck, its sequel Thunderstruck II and Tom Raider.

Queen of the Jungle

July 14th, 2010

Looking for something more exotic for your online slots entertainment?

Microgaming just might have what you are looking for in one of their online slots games. The online slots game in question is called Queen of the Jungle.

This online slots game whisks players away to the jungle to search for their slots fortune. There are five reels with nine paylines to play on in this slots jungle. Wagers per payline start at $0.01 and go up to $0.50. Players can also increase the number of coins being wagered per payline from one coin up to twenty coins.

Because of the wager increments and range of coins per payline a spin could be as low as $0.09 per spin or as high as $90 per spin. It is all up to how adventurous you are a feeling.

Like any good Microgaming online slots game this one does offer players special features and symbols.

Her majesty herself is the Wild in this game. Yes, the Queen of the Jungle will substitute for any symbol other than the Scatter.

And speaking of the Scatter, landing three, four or five Passion Juice symbols will trigger the free spins. At least three of the Scatter will grant you fifteen free spins with a 3x multiplier on them.

Not to worry there is also a bonus game too. This one will have you swinging in the trees with monkeys to win your bonus prize.

With its fun theme and range of denominations and wagering options this is an online slots game that any type of player can enjoy for a summer time adventure.

Daytona Gold Slots

July 12th, 2010

Like racing? Think Daytona 500 or ‘Days of Thunder’ when you think of this new online slots game from Top Game.

Daytona Gold is s five reel online slots game with fifteen paylines of play that takes players to the raceway. Along with four different race cars (blue, green, red and orange), players will also find car parts such as gear Shifters, Steering Wheels and a Side Mirror.

But the symbols that will really get your wheels spinning are the Track, the Flag lady and the Driver.

How do you feel about wild turns? You will not might them in this online slots game. The Track is an image of a turn in a race track, and this symbol is the Wild. It will raise the hair on your arms and substitute for all symbols other than the Driver and Flag Lady.

The Flag Lady will grant you extra laps—I mean spins—in this game. Landing her on the first and last reel will not only earn you a scatter payout but will also award you ten free spins with a 2x multiplier on them.

Finally we come to the Driver. And no driver is complete without his race car, which is where the bonus game comes in. When the Driver is landed on reels two, three and four the Speedway Bonus game is triggered.

In this bonus game players choose the parts to assemble their cars: motor first, tires second, paint third and gas last. In each round of the bonus game players choose one option which will award bonus coins and can advance the player to the next round. But be careful because there are options mixed in with the tires, paint colors and gas types that can end the bonus game.

There are five motors to choose from; five tires with one wrong choice; four paint colors with two wrong colors; and finally three gas types with two that will make your car not go.

Once you have your car assembled it is off to victory lane with you.

Between the fast-paced play and the excitement derived from the thrill of the race, this is one online slots game that will have players hyped up with high octane adrenaline and ready to spin their way into a good payout.

Microgaming’s Beat da Bank

July 8th, 2010

Like in any industry, there is competition. And online slots are not any different.

Recently Virgin Games picked up and started offering their players a new online slots game: Beat da Bank. Beat da Bank is a Microgaming creation and its title bears a striking resemblance to another online slots game: Beat the Bank. However Beat the Bank is a creation of Vegas Technology, a competitor of Microgaming.

Thankfully for players the similarities only exist in two ways: the similar sounding name and the fact that both are online slots games.

The Microgaming online slots game Beat da Bank that was recently picked up by Virgin Games is a three reel game with five paylines modeled after a classic Vegas style slot machine.

It is perhaps because of only having three reels, and ergo less symbols, that Beat da Bank’s Wild also doubles as a bonus feature in the form of a multiplier.

Landing one Logo will result in a 2x multiplier, while two Logos award a 4x multiplier, and three Logos, well, the payout is high enough that players will most likely be okay with not having a multiplier attached.

As for the Vegas Technology game, Beat the Bank, it is a five reel online slots game with twenty five paylines. This online slots game offers players a bonus game and free spins. But then with five reels it can accommodate more symbols than a three can.

While the two games do have a bit of similarity to them, they are two distinct online slots games that offer two different experiences. Microgaming’s Beat da Bank offers players a classic slots experience despite being played online; whereas Vegas Technology’s Beat the Bank offers players a standard online slots experience.

Monster Money

July 8th, 2010

I thought I would make today a bit of an early Halloween and play Monster Money. This is a five reel online slots game with twenty five paylines with something of a Frankenstein theme.

All five reels are littered with Feet, Hands, Heads (yes, I said Heads), Neck Bolts and, every monster movie fans’ favorite, Brains. The body parts are there to accompany Igor, the Castle and Dr. Frankenstein.

Oh, and naturally of the body parts, the Brains are worth the most.

Dr. Frankenstein is in his castle trying to carry out his crazy scheme of building a man out of body parts. This is probably why his is the Wild. He also has a special role in the bonus game.

This online slots game does not feature any free spins, but it does have a bonus game.

Enter the castle if you dare. Landing three or more of the Scatter Electrical Rods will trigger the bonus game. Here players are shown eight doors inside of the castle. They must choose five of these eight doors to make up their bonus prize.

In one round of this bonus game I won $8.60. Not too bad considering that I was only wagering $0.01 per payline.

Monsters found behind doors will award prizes, but finding Dr. Frankenstein will triple all of the bonus prizes in the bonus game. Not too bad for a crazy scientist—I wonder if he was a biology major in college.

When it comes to online slots games from Vegas Technology Monster Money is one of their more popular online slots games in the realm of their online casino games, often being used in tournaments—especially around Halloween.

Fixer Upper Slots

July 7th, 2010

This is one apt title for this online slots game.

For the most part I like the online slots games that Rival produces. Typically they pay pretty well and are enjoyable while playing, especially the iSlots. But this one? I have to say that it is my least favorite online slots game by Rival. But then it is an older iSlot.

Fixer Upper is a five reel iSlot with twenty paylines featuring a couple who have bought a house and are now in the process of fixing it up. Naturally the symbols include a Staple Gun, Saw, Drill, Tape Measure and more.

Like any other iSlot this one does have something of a storyline. Actually it is more of a list of things to work through rather than an actual storyline.

In this iSlot players must trigger the bonus game and complete it. They then move on to the next round of spinning trying to trigger the next bonus game.

The first bonus game players must complete is the plumbing game. Three Wrenches must be landed at which point players are taken to a second screen where they replace rusted pipes with new pipes. The bonus prize then increases the value of your ‘house,’ better known as your bankroll.

Once the game is completed players are returned to the reels to spin for the next bonus round. This time they are trying to land Paint Cans. I am not sure what the second bonus game is like as I was not able to trigger it—which is unusual for a Rival online slots game.

Players do have the chance of triggering fifteen free spins though. The Handywoman is the Scatter and landing at least three of her will trigger the free spins. Three of her will trigger fifteen free spins, four will trigger twenty and five will trigger twenty five. Unfortunately there is no multiplier attached to these free spins.

However the Wild is there to step in. It will expand during free spins, and for every Wild that helps to complete a winning combination, the payout is multiplied by the number of Wilds. And the Wilds land fairly often.

Between the poor payouts and the nearly untriggerable bonus games, this is one online slots game I will not be back to visit. That and, personally, the smiles of the handyman and handywoman are just frightening. This is an online slots game that should be played for fun and not for real money.
