Chinese Morality Slots

January 6th, 2011

Guess what is packed into another of Microgaming’s newest online slots games.

An immortal monkey king that is what. According to the Chinese tale of morality, the Monkey King was born of a boulder on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. He is known for his strength and wisdom, which is apparent when he does battle with gods and mortals alike.

And that is why slots players will find depictions of Buddha, Lao Tzu, Siddhartha (who actually ‘grew up’ to become Buddha), Kwan Yin, Yama, Bodhisattva and Subodhi on the reels of the Monkey King slots game.

For players who have the good fortune to land the minimum of three Monkey King Logos anywhere on the reels, they will be whisked away to a Chinese village where he or she will then pick from three items, three times. The first pick reveals the number of free spins, while the second pick reveals the strength of the multiplier, and the final pick reveals the number of stacked Wilds that will appear on the reels during the free spins.

If the top three items are revealed in the Chinese village, the slots player will have twenty five free spins with a 4x multiplier with six stacked Wilds on those free spins. The possibilities of reward are great.

Microgaming has done an exceptional, if humorous, job of giving new life to the Monkey King Chinese morality tale as well as to the personalities of the gods and mortals of Chinese legend brought to these reels. The colors are rich and the animations smooth.

With the free spins feature being the main bonus feature of this online slots game, players are likely to enjoy this online slots game while bringing honor to their bankrolls.

Thunderstruck Slots Goes Mobile

December 2nd, 2010

Microgaming is known for being a front runner in the online gambling industry. They are known for their highly popular online slots games, and for their ability to be one of the first casino game software developers to do anything.

Some of their most popular online slots games are Thunderstruck and its sequel Thunderstruck II, released in the spring of this year, as well as the new Lord of the Rings slots game released this past September.

Another Microgaming first was their creation and release of QuickFire. QuickFire is an online casino platform that allows online casinos to have easy access to a bunch of Microgaming’s most popular games without the cumbersome support.

And now Microgaming has made another first. They have worked with their mobile technology software partner, Spin3, and have launched the legendary classic Thunderstruck into the mobile world.

Released five years ago, Thunderstruck created the foundation of online slots games and is still one of the most popular online slots games despite being five years old and despite the launch of its sequel.

Thunderstruck is one of ten of Microgaming’s online slots games that are available exclusively for the Apple iPhone, and will run with iOS 4.0 and higher.

Typically one would see an online casino working with a mobile technology software developer to launch the slots games in their casino arsenal to the mobile world.

But Microgaming is bypassing its partner online casinos and going straight to the mobile world themselves.

Considering that Thunderstruck is the headlining online slots game for Microgaming’s mobile slots game app, the new slots app is sure to do well.

Avalon Slots Arrives at Virgin

November 18th, 2010

Virgin Casino has acquired and has launched another Microgaming favorite, no doubt a result of Microgaming’s newest casino software QuickFire.

The new comer to Virgin is called Avalon, and I think that players at Virgin will be quite pleased with the five reel, twenty payline online slots game. It features the rich and well detailed graphics that Microgaming is known for, but this time those design efforts have brought forth the world of mythical Avalon from the legends of King Arthur.

Avalon tempts players to its shores with a 15,000 coin jackpot in regular game play. However, Avalon is hiding a free spins feature that can send players winnings up to 105,000 coins.

The free spins feature is triggered, not by King Arthur, but by one of my favorite characters found in the legends about Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table: the Lady of the Lake. She and Maab are my favorites. Sadly Maab was not included in this online slots game.

But back to the Lady of the Lake. Like most triggers, she is the Scatter and she will reveal the 12 free spins that have been secreted away in Avalon. The feature offers multipliers of up to 7x on those free spins.

But the free spins offer a special little bonus. Hidden in the reels—Avalon is very good at hiding things it seems—is a battered Treasure Chest. This Treasure Chest is a special Wild for the free spins, which will allow players to take even more advantage of the multipliers on their free spins.

While Avalon is not one of the high profile online slots games to come from Microgaming, it is still one of their enjoyable games to play. Avalon is sure to become a favorite at Virgin Casino.

Microgaming’s Ironic Online Slots Game

November 8th, 2010

While perusing a Microgaming online casino, I happened across what I would have to say is the world’s most ironic online slots game.

Scrooge is a five reel online slots game with fifty paylines. The irony of this online slots game is that Scrooge is too miserly of a character to ever play slots himself. On other hand, I could see him running his own online casino.

Joining the old miser himself on the reels are Tiny Tim and Jacob Marley along with all of the Ghosts of Christmas: Past, Present and Future. The graphics are fantastic which is par the course for a Microgaming online slots game.

And like all Microgaming online slots game, this one does offer bonus features.

The Logo, representing Scrooge, is the Wild, transforming into any of the symbols other than the Scatter. But in a rare show of generosity, he will double the winnings of any combination that the Logo completes.

Remember that infamous door knocker on Scrooge’s front door? Well, it is here too and plays the part of the Scatter. Land three or more and you will be transported to the table where Christmas Dinner is to be served.

And you are doing the serving. To earn your bonus game prize you must feed Scrooge and his guests, Jacob Marley, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.

Finally there are the free spins. You could add to your free spins when you click on the winning symbol. Or you could use that click to mark a day off of your Christmas calendar. Once you hit Christmas there is another bonus prize waiting for you under the tree.

While it may not quite be the holiday season yet (almost!), there is nothing wrong with getting started early. And this is the Christmas online slots game of choice from Microgaming, what with all its bonus features. So catch Scrooge while he is in a generous mood.

Microgaming Goes Retro

November 5th, 2010

In the mood for a more classically oriented online slots game? Something that brings to mind the one-armed bandits of old, but that still offers some of the features we have come to love in modern slots games?

Microgaming has just the online slots game for just such a want.

It is one of their newest online slots games called Retro Reels.

Retro Reels is five reel online slots game with twenty paylines. And all of the symbols are designed after the classic symbols found on the old one-armed bandits: 7’s, Cherries, Lemons, Plums, Dollar Signs and Bars.

But this classic looking five reel offers players a mix of classic features as well as some of the modern day bonus features we love.

Like the classic slots games there is no Wild in this game and there are not any bonus games.

But there is a Scatter and a free spins feature. The Scatter is the Dollar Sign and it will payout 100 coins for three and 1,000 coins for four. But it is landing five Dollar Signs that will trigger the 10,000 coin jackpot of this online slots game.

As for the free spins, there is a 5 Free Spins symbol, and I like the way it works.

Landing two 5 Free Spins symbols will trigger 10 free spins—5 Free Spins times 2 equals 10, get it?

Starting at two of the 5 Free Spins symbols, players will be awarded 5 free spins for every one of those free spins symbols they land. The maximum amount of free spins to be won is 25 because there are only five reels, making 5 Free Spins symbols the most you can land.

On the whole I like the combination of classic looks and features of slot machines mixed with modern day features of online slots games. I salute Microgaming for this simple, yet well-executed new online slots game.

Slots to Steal from the Rich

November 3rd, 2010

Yes, we know that slots games are designed to take money. But that is not what I mean when I say ‘Steal from the rich and give to the poor.

What I am talking about is the second of the four new Microgaming online slots games to be released this month: Robin Hood.

While many online casino game software creators have designed a Robin Hood themed online slots game before, Microgaming has taken a slightly different approach: birds.

Yes, birds. Maid Marion, Friar Tuck, the Sheriff of Nottingham and, of course, Robin Hood are all birds. Maid Marion is a dove; Friar Tuck is an owl; the Sheriff of Nottingham is a crow; and Robin Hood is a sparrow.

Not a bad cast when you figure it came from an aviary.

Robin Hood is another online slots game that features the 243 different ways to win. Like I said in yesterday’s slots post, this seems to be a growing trend—especially from Microgaming.

Another increasing trend is Stacked Wilds. And Robin Hood offers that as well in the form of the game’s logo.

It would not be Robin Hood if there were not any Wanted posters. So of course Microgaming has included them. Only these Wanted posted will trigger fifteen free spins with a possible multiplier worth up to 100x. That is if you can land three, four or five Wanted posters.

And we cannot forget about that little sparrow, Robin Hood. Landing him on reels one and five at the same time will trigger the archery bonus game. Guess what you do there.

Players have five arrows to hit five of the nine targets to win multipliers for their bonus prize. The multipliers range from 2x and 15x.

This slots game is a rather comical take on Sherwood Forest and the Robin Hood crew, but when taking into consideration the Stacked Wilds, free spins, bonus game and 243 ways to win, this is not a bad online slots game at all. It has the potential to give a bankroll extended life.

Microgaming’s Slots Reach Expanding

October 21st, 2010

Online slots are expanding in their reach throughout the online casino industry. Small wonder considering how easy they are to play. Most particularly are the Microgaming online slots and what Microgaming has done to further the reach of their slots games.

Recently Microgaming introduced a new software program called QuickFire. This new software is meant to compliment their online casino games offering. At its start, QuickFire contains one hundred and fifty games, including popular online slots games such as Lord of the Rings, Thunderstruck and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

The purpose of Microgaming is to allow for support of those one hundred and fifty titles without the need for back office support. But what does this mean for online slots players?

It means that it is possible for Microgaming online slots games to be available at online casinos that are not powered by Microgaming. This is similar to Virgin Casino and how they offer slots games from a variety of online casino game software developers. And it is probably how they have recently begun launching some already well-established Microgaming slots games.

Microgaming’s QuickFire branch is already very optimistic:

“QuickFire provides a fast and efficient way for operators to bring Microgaming’s premium content to their players and we have been delighted with the market’s response since our launch,” said Ashley Sandyford-Sykes, a spokesperson for QuickFire

So far nine online casinos have picked up the Microgaming QuickFire software, which is licensed in Gibraltar, Malta, Kahnawake and Alderney.

The QuickFire software is a way for Microgaming to extend the reach of their slots games by allowing online casinos to offer some of their best games. It will be interesting to see how other software developers will react to this very direct competition.

Dolphin Coast Slots

October 11th, 2010

October will see the release of four new online slots games from Microgaming. There is Tiger’s Eye, Steinfest and Monsters in the Closet. Now for the fourth and final new Microgaming online slots game for October: Dolphin Coast.

Players are taken below the waves in this new five reel online slots game. However there are no paylines to this slots game. Similar to Thunderstruck II, Dolphin Coast’s winnings happen due to symbols falling on consecutive reels.

Microgaming has this new pearl of a slots game boasting 3,125 ways to win thanks to consecutive reel landings and the help of two Wilds.

On reel three is the Logo, and on reels two and four is the Dolphin Wild. The Dolphin Wild is a Stacked Wild, which increases the chances of making winning combinations.

But the Logo is the key to triggering the bonus game, the Wild Dolphin Bonus. In order to be triggered a Dolphin Wild must be landed both reels two and four and the Logo must be on reel three.

All three symbols then turn into dolphins and expand over their reels. Players then choose one those three dolphins, which will reveal either a 2x, 3x or 4x multiplier to award a bonus prize with.

But this online slots game also offers players a free spins feature.

The Scatter, which is merely labeled Scatter on the reels, must be landed at least three times in order to trigger the free spins. Three Scatters will award fifteen free spins, while four will award twenty and five will award twenty five free spins.

While the no paylines and having more than one Wild are both good features of this new online slots game, it just feels like it is lacking oomph. Perhaps, despite the fact that it is well illustrated, the feeling comes from the theme. There are so many underwater themes that perhaps this no payline, double Wild slots game should have had a different theme.

But theme aside, Microgaming has produced yet another solid new online slots game in Dolphin Coast.

Monsters in Your Slots

October 8th, 2010

Well, not really. The name of the game is Monsters in the Closet and it is the newest Halloween online slots game. Finally! A new Halloween themed online slots game!

Monsters in the Closet comes from Microgaming. They have given this new five reel online slots games fifty paylines. That is a lot of monsters.

Microgaming’s artists have done an incredible job with their monster creations. They are somewhat odd but without being disgusting or overly scary. But the reels are full of these guys and the mayhem they wish to cause is evident. In total there are seven different kinds of monsters.

Unlike two of the other new Microgaming slots games this month, Monsters in the Closet does not have a Stacked Wild or an Expanding Wild. Instead the Logo is just a standard Wild that will substitute for any symbol other than the Scatter and Bonus symbols.

There is a monster with a bull ring in its nose. This Bull Monster, as I call him, is the Scatter. Only two of him are necessary to receive the minimum Scatter payout. But landing three or more of him will trigger the free spins feature.

The free spins feature is made up of twelve free spins each with a 3x multiplier on it. Free spins can be triggered during a free spin as well.

Then there is the Bonus symbol, the Skeleton Key. Landing three of those in this online slots game will trigger the Monster Closet bonus game. This second screen bonus game starts out with five doors that the player must choose from. Behind each door is either a bonus prize or one of two icons that could start a second bonus game.

One of the second bonus games is called Scary Slam in which players slam doors on the monsters. The more monsters you keep out of the light the bigger your bonus prize will be.

The other second bonus game is the Haunted Destination. Players go through the door to one of four places: Mummy’s Tomb, Vampire’s Castle, Werewolf’s Cabin or Yeti’s Cavern. Players choose hiding places to examine which will reveal bonus prizes.

Despite not following the recent Stacked or Expanding Wild trend, Monsters in the Closet is an enjoyable Halloween online slots game. And the bonus games definitely make up for it having a standard Wild. Not bad for another new Microgaming slots game.

Tiger’s Eye Slots

October 5th, 2010

It is a new month and Microgaming is already off to a new start with their newest online slots game, Tiger’s Eye.

Tiger’s Eye is a five reel, forty payline online slots game that takes players into an exotic jungle in search of their slots treasure. The symbols are rich in color and detail with the quality that Microgaming is known for.

On the reels players will find a Paw Print, a Monkey, a Peacock, a Fawn and a Tiger of course. They are accompanied by rich amber colored 10s, Js, Qs, Ks and As.

The Tiger is the highest paying regular playing symbol, awarding 800 coins for landing five of this might hunter. But the Logo, which is also the Wild, will payout 1,000 coins for landing five it.

Following what seems to be an increasingly popular trend, Microgaming has outfitted this new gem of a slots game with a Stacked Wild, which is the Logo. Naturally those Stacked Wilds are a big help to increasing winnings as they will substitute for all symbols except for the Scatter.

The Scatter in this new online slots game is the Golden Tiger Statue. Like a good Scatter, only two are needed to receive a Scatter payout. The Scatter payouts start as a 1x multiplier for two and go up to 200x for five of them.

But three Golden Tiger Statues will not only award a Scatter payout, they will also trigger the free spins feature, which is the crowning jewel of this online slots game.

Players begin the free spins feature with ten free spins. The first spin has a 1x multiplier, the second spin has a 2x multiplier on it, the third has a 3x multiplier, and this increase in multipliers continues until players get to the tenth spin which has a 10x multiplier.

Going along with the Stacking Wild and this new style on free spins gives Tiger’s Eye a nice edge as a new online slots game. Microgaming has done well with its trip into the exotic jungle.
