Payout percentages are indicators of how much a slots game is to payout over a set period of time, usually a month, from the total amount of wagers taken in from all players.
If an online slots game is programmed with a payout percentage of 95%, it will payout 95% of the total wagers taken in. If it takes in $100,000 in wagers in one month, it will pay out $95,000. If it only takes in $50,000 it will pay out $47,500.
The point here is that regardless of the dollar amount taken in in wagers, the percentage of those wagers paid back out to players in various amounts will be 95%.
Payout percentages are in place so that online casino operators and regulation bodies can see if an online slots game is performing correctly—meaning that it is not taking in all money and paying next to nothing out, or paying everything back out.
