Slot Machine Tips to Help You Win

November 8th, 2011

Here are a few essential tips to keep in mind when you are playing slots online.

First let’s find our website. Make sure you’re playing at the best online casino, if you don’t know what one of these casinos are go to a gambling directory for help, like Yahoo! or Online Casino Suite.
Make sure the site you are at allows you to practice with some funny money. This should be around $1,000; all of the best casinos provide you with this. Also make sure you are at a casino with at least a 95% payout. Upper 90s are what you should aim for, and they are out there.

Once you have found the site you would like to play at, find your game. I like to play progressive slot machines with bonus rounds. Any game with a bonus round is in general going to have a higher jackpot for you to win. And a progressive game means the jackpot keeps growing with every bet, until it is won.

When I play I like to place the max bet. You cannot win the maximum jackpot without the max bet. If you are playing at a game where the max bet is just far too large, than you are playing at the wrong machine, it’s that simple.

And finally practice. Get a feel for the game. Any seasoned slot player is going to tell you that the best way to win at slots is to warm up to the machine, and trust your gut.

Choosing a Slots Game—Part IV

August 18th, 2011

So this morning we talked about how important scatter payouts were to players looking to choose an online slots game. It is, after all, a payout that does not require symbols to land left to right on an active payline and it pays out based on your total wager rather than just what you wagered on one payline.

But there is more to look for in the pay table of an online slots game when choosing.

The key to finding an online slots game with a good pay table is to keep the preservation of your bankroll in mind. Sure we would all love to win the jackpot on any online slots game we play, and that would mean choosing the slots game with the highest jackpot possible. Unfortunately the jackpot is not the easiest payout to land.

This means looking at the other payouts that you could win. Pay attention to the payouts that you are likely to get on a frequent basis. Sure these payouts are not going to win you back the cost of two or three spins. They may not even win you back the cost of one spin. But they are giving you something and that something is increasing the longevity of your online slots bankroll.

Look to see if an online slots game offers any sort of regular payout—not a scatter—with only two symbols. Also look to see if there are three symbol payouts in that would also help keep your slots bankroll alive.

Playing online slots is about playing smart and that means thinking of the preservation of your online slots bankroll.

Choosing a Slots Game—Part III

August 18th, 2011

Well after a bit of a break from advice on how to choose an online slots game I think it is time to revisit the topic. Recently we talked about why to stay away from progressive online slots and how important the number of paylines is. Now it is time to look at the pay table.

Before spinning the reels of any online slots game scope out its pay table. There are some types of payouts that you want to be on the lookout for:

Scatter payouts can be some of the best regular play payouts. Typically players will only land the lowest paying combinations on a regular basis. Because of that you will want to check out what kind of payouts the smaller scatters offer.

One good thing is an online slots game that only requires two scatters to receive a payout. This makes it all the easier to win a payout.

But there is one thing in regard to scatter payouts that you will want to definitely make sure of and that its the lowest payout. Never go for an online slots game that only offers a 1x payout for the smallest number of scatters. While that will recoup you the cost of the spin that allowed you to win that 1x payout, it does nothing more for you or for preserving your bankroll.

You will want to look for an online slots game whose smallest scatter payout is 2x. This will not only give you back the cost of your spin—since scatter payouts are based on your total wager—but it will also give you a little bit extra.

I will talk some more this afternoon about scoping out the pay table.

Choosing a Slots Game—Part II

August 11th, 2011

Welcome back for Part II for Choosing an Online Slots Game. If you missed yesterday’s Choosing an Online Slots Game—Part I check it out.

This morning I am going to talk to you about the paylines an online slots game has. There is always a question of what is the best number of paylines. Really there is no right or wrong answer. It has more to do with your bankroll and what you are comfortable wagering. But when it comes to choosing an online slots game that is not going to run your bankroll out, paylines have to be considered.

Let’s look at some math. Let’s say you go with conservative wagering, which I recommend because the payout differences between denominations are not worth the losses from wagering the maximum (guess what this afternoon’s post will be about).

You are wagering a penny per payline on twenty five payline online slots game. That means a single spin costs your bankroll $0.25. Let’s say you make seven spins per minute, so that is 420 spins in an hour. In that hour you will have the potential to lose $105.

Whenever doing the math for playing an online slots game—or any online casino game for that matter—think of it in terms of loss. Wins are not guaranteed, but wagering your money means that losses are definite. Do the math for worst case scenario to allow for the best plan.

Now let’s say you are wagering that penny on a forty payline online slots game. Your total potential loss in an hour would be $168. And for one of those flashy one hundred payline online slots games? That would be a potential loss of $420.

So you can see that the number of paylines does matter. Again, there is no definite right or wrong number of paylines. What I am trying to impart here is that you should consider the number of paylines and make sure you are choosing an online slots game whose cost per spin you are comfortable with.

Choosing an Online Slots Game—Part I

August 10th, 2011

When it comes to choosing an online slots game to play, you will find there are many different methods discussed in forums and such around the Internet. Some are on the aggressive side; some make no sense; and some lean on more conservative methods that are much easier on one’s bankroll. I would be one of those who choose which online slots games to play with the sense of preserving my bankroll and making it last.

So my first tip to be discussed in this series of tips for Choosing an Online Slots Game will be to avoid progressive games.

I know a lot of players are drawn to the really large, life altering jackpots, but there are a few things about progressive online slots that are dangerous to making your bankroll last.

For starters you are playing against thousands, potentially millions, of other players at the same time. All players who are currently spinning the reels are linked to the same RNG and the same jackpot. This is why there is only one huge jackpot and how a portion of each wager being fed into the jackpot.

This is compared to playing a non-progressive online slots game, which is just you and the game. You are not playing against other players. Not playing against other players means the odds are better. Playing in a linked progressive online slots game means the odds are stacked higher against you.

Another drawback to progressive online slots games are the wagers themselves. Progressive online slots games require players to wager the maximum. This means the maximum amount of coins per payline with every payline activated. This can lead to some very expensive wagering, which then depletes your bankroll much faster.

So my first tip for choosing an online slots game is to avoid progressive online slots games. This will keep you from playing in a linked game against other players, which results in much higher odds, as well as allowing you to avoid making large wagers that will run your bankroll out.

Choosing an Online Slots Game

August 4th, 2011

Part of playing online slots games is choosing which one to play from the hundreds of possibilities. Here on SlotsHero.com we have talked about a couple of the most common statistics that players use when choosing which online slots game to play: payout percentage and hit frequency.

Now it is important to know that while statistics like payout percentage and hit frequency are accurate measures that reflect on an online slots game, they are not precise.

Look at payout percentage. It tells a player how much of all of the wagers taken in during month that are paid back out in wagers. It does not tell a player if that is a bunch of small payouts or a smaller number of large payouts. The same sort of thing applies to hit frequency. It only tells a player how often an online slots game hits, but it does not say if that statistic is made up of small hits or jackpot hits.

So you might wonder why online slots players will use these two statistics to choose an online slots game when they lack preciseness. They do because there is no other statistics that players can lay their hands on.

So how does a player use these two if they are so imprecise? As basic as it sounds, trial and error.

Say you are looking for an online slots game based on payout percentage. You might start with the highest percentage that you mind, but once you start playing you discover that it does not payout in small payouts, but seems to lean towards infrequent larger payouts, and this is not what you want. At this point you would have back to comparing payout percentages, choosing a new online slots game and giving it a run to see if it pays out more like how you want it to.

Finding the right online slots game does take a bit of trial and error and that is something that players need to keep in mind when cruising the online casinos.

Slots Myth: Using Intuition

July 27th, 2011

When it comes to choosing an online slots game, there are people who will tell you to base your choice on intuition. After all, using your intuition is a classic Vegas way of determining how to play you cards or slots or choose which numbers to play.

Unfortunately this is not the best way to choose which online slots game to play despite how prevalent the ‘Let Your Intuition Be Your Guide’ slots strategy is. If you are playing a strategy game, then use bona-fide strategy. And if you are playing a game of chance, like online slots, make your decisions based on what you want. If you really want to play that Egyptian themed slots game, then play that one.

Online slots are not just a form of gambling, it is also a form of entertainment. So you should enjoy the slots game you are playing. If your intuition seems to think you should play a slots game that you do not want to play, do not play it then.

There are a number of reasons for choosing a particular online slots game. A popular method is to choose based on the payout percentage of an online slots game. The payout percentage is the amount of total wagers paid back in winnings in a given time period, usually a month.

Another way to choose is to read the forums on online casino sites and see which slots games everyone is talking about. Read and find out why there is such a buzz about a game and then decide if you want to play it.

But it is unwise to look at a lineup of online slots and see which one ‘feels’ like it will payout. It has been proven time and again in studies that intuition is not a proper guide on how to play online slots or any other online casino game. Blindly choosing which or how to play online slots is more often than not detrimental to a player’s bankroll. And not online slots player wants to do anything that would be detrimental to their bankroll when playing a game of chance.

Online Slots Lineups

July 27th, 2011

Have you ever considered how an online casino presents their online slots lineup? Most players do not. But that is not surprising. It is a detail after all. And in most cases the lineup is pretty standard and of no consequence.

By that I mean that the online casino lists its online slots in alphabetical order, with the newest slots at the front with a ‘New’ designation. And once the games are no longer new or when new online slots come out, the previous ‘New’ online slots will be placed in alphabetical order with the rest. This is pretty common.

However, from time to time players might come across an online casino whose online slots lineup does not seem to be in any particular order. Not alphabetic. Not grouped by common themes. The slots just seem to be there in no order. Why could that be?

One answer is that it is possible that the online casino in question could have just kept adding to their slots lineup without imposing any order; just placing the newest slots at the front.

Or the online casino could have a strategic order to their lineup. It is possible that the first few online slots games are hot slots whose placement could result in players trying those first, getting the idea that there are hot slots games to be found at this online casino. After those few hot slots would come a string of cold slots games which are in place to scoop up player money.

This is not always the case with a random lineup of online slots. But since land casinos will have a strategic placement when it comes to the placement of their hot and cold slot machines, it warrants that some online casinos could try to invoke the same thing. Most do not since it is easier for players to find the online slots game they desire when the listing is alphabetical.

Hot Slots and Cold Slots

July 25th, 2011

Regardless of whether you prefer to play your slots games online or in a land casino, you are bound to come across the terms hot slots and cold slots. Obviously since we are including online slots games, we are not talking about the literal temperature of the game. What we are actually talking about is how the slots game pays out

When you hear someone either in a casino or in an online forum talking about a cold slots game or a tight slots game, they mean that the slots game in question is not paying out. Either it is not paying out anything or it is making small payouts at infrequent intervals, enough so that the player feels as though he or she is losing more money than they think they should.

On the other hand, when you hear players on the slots floor or in online slots forums talk about a hot or loose slots game that means that the slots game paid out for them. Either it was making frequent smaller payouts or it was making regular larger payouts. Either way, it was paying out enough that the player felt it was doing better than regular.

The one thing to keep in mind in talks of hot and cold slots games is that there are slots myths that surround them. While it is true that a slot machine or online slots game could seem hot or cold to a player, it is not something that can be tracked; there are slots myths that tell players that a slots game will stay hot or cold for a certain number of spins before switching. This is untrue.

Also keep in mind that what one player thinks of as hot or cold may not match your own definition. Now if there are lots of players saying that a particular slots game is cold or tight then there might be some credence to what is being said. But do not base your choice to try an online slots game or slot machine based on what one person says.

Tracking Slots Games

June 30th, 2011

Tracking is a popular pseudo slots strategy when it comes to online slots playing. I say ‘pseudo’ because tracking the wins and payouts of an online slots game does an actually increase a player’s chances of winning or ‘cracking’ an online slots game. Let me explain.

Online slots are games of chance. This means that the game’s RNG will pull the result for a spin in the first microsecond after the Spin button is clicked. The RNG will pull the outcome of a spin from all possible outcomes; none are removed from being a possibility. With none being removed from being pulled for a spin, it means that tracking does not ‘crack’ how or when a certain combination will land. For example, say an online slots game lands a particular combination seven times and then lands the jackpot; it does not mean that landing that particular combination seven more time will trigger the jackpot. It is entirely random.

Another reason tracking does not work is that a player cannot see the results of any other player’s spins on that same online slots game. So even if tracking did work, the player doing the tracking would not be able to factor in the results of the hundreds or thousands of the players’ results.

However, there is one thing that all online slots players should be tracking: how much they lose and how much the win. This information comes in handy come tax time. Online slots players can actually claim their losses up to a certain point. And any major slots wins also have to be claimed; in fact, there is a special form of gambling winnings.

So rather than tracking the results of spins in an ineffectual attempt to ‘crack’ an online slots game, players should be tracking their losses and wins from playing online slots.
