Best Slots Apps

January 18th, 2012

I was scanning the internet for the best slot games online yesterday when it hit me, applications! Why have I not thought to play casino games on my phone and tablet computer? All this time it was right at my fingertips, literally. I left Wikipedia and went immediately to Google. There I hunted down reviews, personal blogs, ratings and came up with a list of the slot applications that you should be downloading.

Let’s start with the free ones and then slowly work our way into the high-roller apps. Meaning the ones that will set you back one or two dollars. My favorite free one should be pretty easy to find: ‘Slot Machine’ is the name of it. Although a rather simple name, ‘Slot Machine’ has over 20 different games to choose from and offers a $100 welcoming bonus.

If you are willing to spend a dollar on an app then ‘Monkey Money Slots’ or ‘Lucky 7 Slots’ are for you. These both have a lot of fun features, and can become easily addictive.

Now if you have two dollars lying around then I have the game that you should purchase. ‘Vegas Slots’ will literally virtually transport you to Vegas just by playing this application. I find this game to be the most effective out of all of the casino games, not just slot games.

So there you have it, the best slots apps out there. What shall I write about next? What do you need to know and learn to become a slot hero? I am here to be your authority on all things slots!

Random Number Generation and Slots

December 6th, 2011

I used to only like playing slots in actual brick and mortar casinos because I thought online jackpot winning was non-existent, and online casinos had no one to audit them. I soon found out that my perception was actually a misconception. Every online casino has Random Number Generation installed in their software; well the reputable ones anyway. What the software does is ensure that the game you are playing is completely fair and random.

Random Number Generation (RNG) can take three different forms. There is the computational form, the physical form and the human form. Your favorite online casino uses the computational form which uses complex formulas and algorithms. This method is used on a variety of different things including cryptography, completely randomized design, and statistical sampling.

The physical method is used at your favorite casino. This method comes in the form of a dice throw, a wheel spin, even a card deal.

The least common method is the human method. Although humans claim to be completely random they are not. This method is truly unreliable and therefore not favored by many scientists.

So now you’re wondering how to know if your casino complies with RNG standards, right? Every casino is audited regularly by the Technical Systems Testing (TST) for complete randomization. There is no way a casino can “tighten up” their machines. In fact every casino has a payout percentage. This means that for the amount of money put into a casino, they have to payout a certain percentage of that money. So you know that if you are playing at a casino with a payout percentage of 98% you are going to hit more often.

Slot Machine Tips to Help You Win

November 8th, 2011

Here are a few essential tips to keep in mind when you are playing slots online.

First let’s find our website. Make sure you’re playing at the best online casino, if you don’t know what one of these casinos are go to a gambling directory for help, like Yahoo! or Online Casino Suite.
Make sure the site you are at allows you to practice with some funny money. This should be around $1,000; all of the best casinos provide you with this. Also make sure you are at a casino with at least a 95% payout. Upper 90s are what you should aim for, and they are out there.

Once you have found the site you would like to play at, find your game. I like to play progressive slot machines with bonus rounds. Any game with a bonus round is in general going to have a higher jackpot for you to win. And a progressive game means the jackpot keeps growing with every bet, until it is won.

When I play I like to place the max bet. You cannot win the maximum jackpot without the max bet. If you are playing at a game where the max bet is just far too large, than you are playing at the wrong machine, it’s that simple.

And finally practice. Get a feel for the game. Any seasoned slot player is going to tell you that the best way to win at slots is to warm up to the machine, and trust your gut.

Microgaming Adds to QuickFire

August 3rd, 2011

QuickFire is quickly being heralded as one of the best and most innovative products to come rolling out of Microgaming. Online casino operators can choose to sign on to use the QuickFire program to offer their players access to Microgaming games, especially their online slots games. What operators like about the QuickFire platform is that it does not require the back end support that online casino games normally offer.

The QuickFire platform also allows online casino operators to offer Microgaming online slots games without having to partner with Microgaming. This can be evidenced by looking at Virgin Casino. Virgin is not partnered with Microgaming but they still offer their online slots games. This is because Virgin is signed on to use the QuickFire platform.

Now Microgaming is adding to their QuickFire platform. Already the product has more than 500 online slots games, including such favorites as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Thunderstruck II. New games to the QuickFire platform are to include new August releases such at Triangulation and Spingo, which is a combination of Bingo and roulette. Last month say the addition of Hexaline to the QuickFire platform.

When QuickFire first launched last year, it offered only some of the classically favorite online slots games. New online slots games were uploaded to the platform a couple to a few months later. But that is changing as QuickFire grows and as Microgaming’s reach expands. Now new online casino games are uploaded to QuickFire within the same month as their release.

3D Slots for Real

July 30th, 2011

The last several months has seen online slots game developers creating and launching quite a few 3D online slots games. While these delightful creations are not limited to one software developer, Rival Gaming has been in the lead in terms of creating the most to date, but Microgaming might have created the only true 3D online slots game. Read on to get the difference.

In reality there are actually two types of 3D online slots games. Well now there are since Microgaming’s release of Sterling Silver 3D online slots last month. Prior to that release, 3D slots were not actually three dimensional in that the images seemed to come out of the screen with the help of special glasses.

Up until Sterling Silver 3D, 3D online slots were slots games with exceptionally high quality graphics; the kinds of graphics that make you think of Toy Story or other Pixar creations. These are graphics that appear three dimensional while being presented in a two dimensional format.

These were the 3D online slots games that players were familiar with, and they have become quite popular for their graphics quality.

But last month Microgaming launched a real 3D online slots game: Sterling Silver 3D. This online slots game does require special glasses to make the graphics pop out of the screen like how elements of a 3D movie pop out of the movie screen. Players have to request a pair of 3D glasses from the online casino they play at.

Do not think that real 3D online slots games will replace the most common form of 3D online slots games—their graphics ensure that they will be around for quite some time and that we will see more produced…of both varieties.

From Online Slots to Scratch Cards

July 22nd, 2011

Scratch cards at online casinos are not as popular as online slots. But they are increasing in their appeal little by little. And as such more and more are being based off of online slots games to help boost their appeal.

At the very basics of the game, online scratch cards are not too much different than online slots games. I think that is why some online casino game software developers are now beginning to create online scratch cards based off of popular online slots themes; the hope is to draw players new to scratch cards in with familiar themes. Playtech is the latest software developer to try using popular themes to draw players to the scratch cards using themes such as Iron Man 2 and King Kong from their online slots lineup.

Online scratch cards allow players to place a wager on the card they have chosen from the available themes. Once the wager is set, players use their mouse to ‘scratch off’ the windows of the card and see what they have won. The prizes are then awarded based on which symbols are revealed, similar to how the payout in an online slots game is based on which symbols are landed on the reels.

The biggest difference is that online scratch cards do not have all the razzle dazzle and entertainment that online slots games have. And without reels, there are no free spins. And there are also no bonus games. Online scratch cards are in essence a simplified version of online slots games.

It will be interesting to see if this new approach of using popular online slots themes on online scratch cards will increase the number of players playing them. Playtech is leading the way in terms of this software development. If it works we are bound to see more and more online casino game software developers doing the same.

Retro Slots on the Internet

July 19th, 2011

Does that sound like an oxymoron to you? Perhaps at first it is hard to imagine something retro on the Internet, but if you stop for a moment and think about some of the new online slots games released this year, especially Microgaming’s Retro Reels, the idea of the retro being found in online slots is not that far off.

Despite all of the high tech graphics capabilities out there, there is still a fondness for the classic aspect of the old school online slots. The aforementioned Retro Reels by Microgaming offer players a classic look with classic symbols such as cherries and bars. Using the classic symbols from the old slot machines of the past is only one way that the retro has found its way into online slots.

Another showing of the retro in online slots are the games that offer players three reels instead of the much more common and modern format of five reels. In some of these three reels the fewer number of reels is a concession to the retro while still offering players multiple paylines. Other retro styled online slots games with three reels only offer a single payline like the good ol’ slot machines.

What I find to be an interesting though is how long it will be before the graphical technology online slots developers use bring us full circle back to one-armed bandits. Already graphics technology has brought us rich 3D graphics and recently a real 3D online slots game. It is entirely possible for that technology to create 3D online slots games could be used to create a 3D virtual online slot machine which lets players pull the handle to spin the reels.

Regardless of whether an online slots developer actually creates such a virtual one-armed bandit, there is no denying that despite this being an age of high technology that there is a desire for the retro in our online slots games.

Math and Online Slots

July 18th, 2011

I was reading an online gambling site’s post about math and gambling. The idea is that there are roughly two categories of online gamblers: those that use math and those that don’t use math and wind up mad at those that do.

After giving it some thought I realized that online slots players are on the outside of this idea for the most part. The reason that there is math in online gambling is that math is necessary in order to figure out how to bet. Math is involved in the strategy of a casino game.

However there really is no strategy for online slots. We set our wagers and click Spin. There is nothing we can do to impact the outcome of a spin of the reels. Because we cannot impact the outcome of the spin there is no math involved in how we play online slots. The angry guy is just as likely to win as the guy who is crunching numbers.

There is some math in online slots, but it is not strategy based math or math that will help one slots player win more than another player. But we do use math when figuring out our wagers.

We will figure coins versus paylines to figure out our total wager. We can also use math to figure out what some of our potential payouts might be in order to help us figure out what to wager.

It is also true that the probability portion of math is involved. By this I mean that there is 1 in X chance of landing the jackpot. There is a probability for every payout on the pay table. Some players will go through and figure the math, but at the end of the day knowing the probabilities of a particular payout is not going to increase an online slots player’s chances of winning.

This all means that online slots players do not fall into the angry anti-math category. To my mind this is another plus 1 for online slots—it is the online casino game that does not require math and does not make for players who have a harder time with math to get angry with strong math online slots players.

More Free Spins in Slots Now?

July 14th, 2011

Is it just me, or maybe just you, but does it seem like there are more and more new online slots games that offer players the chance to trigger a free spins feature instead of a bonus game?

No, none of us are imagining it. There are more and more new online slots games with free spins features and no bonus games. Some believe that this is allows online casinos to not have to pay players as much as they would if a player won in a pick your prize bonus game. But those in the industry say that is not so. So what gives?

Actually the change over in the bonus feature has to do with the shift to lower stakes wagering in online slots and the RNG. It always comes back to the RNG!

There is a greater volatility in a free spins feature than in a pick your prize bonus games. A greater volatility allows for larger bonus payouts than the pick your prize bonus games. The possibility of greater bonus payouts is a result of that volatility.

Free spins bonus features offer a greater range in prize amounts; there are a lot of smaller payouts than can be found in a pick your prize bonus game. By offering smaller payouts in free spins features, an online casino can offer larger payouts from free spins. Paying out lots of small payouts means there is more left over for really large payouts. In a pick your prize bonus game the moderate payouts take up more of the bonus prize potential so that the larger prizes are not as large.

More and more players are switching to wagering low stakes, and the volatility of lower wagering compliments that switch because players can win more from free spins than they can from the pick your prize bonus games. The downside is that the smaller prize payouts are smaller, but those smaller payouts make the really large ones possible.
